Mend Hotpoint Problem Freezer

TEMP HIGH on Hotpoint Mistral Plus?

I have had a problem with this fridge freezer, the temp went high on both units about 4 wks after we moved house. I turned it off and left it for 3 wks. Now the fridge is at 24c and freezer at -19c. The pump sounds as if working OK, have removed the front grill and cleaned all dust out , have removed the bulb to see if thats heating it up with door shut. but that made no difference. I have also confirmed that the unit is fitted level. PLEASE I'm running out of ideas and cant find anybody willing to service this unit in the WAKEFIELD ( WF9 ) area.

Many thanks in advance

If the door has dropped, it doesn't turn the light off and it heats the fridge. Heavy bottles in the door can affect it too. Make sure the light is going out. Simples!!!!!!

Hi,

We have pretty much the same problem and when we checked with one of the local repairers they quoted 110 as they suggested the fan needs replacing.

So we started to see if we can do anything around this ourselves.
Took off the lower panel and it was quite clogged with dust but clearing did not make much of a difference and the fridge compartment is still at 24 degrees C.

So i am guessing the next option which i can read from previous posts is to replace the thermistors.

Can anyone suggest how do i get to these in the fridge and if these need any special soldering , etc. to actually replace these.

Any guidelines would be very helpful.

Thanks,
Sunny

I have just carried out this repair, however I thought I would check the thermistors before buying new ones.

The problem is that the connectors are of the horrible "scotch-lock" type, the wires are pushed into the connector relying on the blades inside to cut through the insulation and make contact. After 10 years these had tarnished, I removed the wires, cleaned the inside of the "blades" cut some of the wire back and refitted them. I then checked the resistance value at room temp, about 3.2K

You could solder and hot-melt to insulate if you prefer, this may be a more permanent solution, certainly better than the original method ;)

After re-assembly everything works as it should and only about 1/2hr labour cost-wise :) Hopefully this may help others ;)

hey, i know this is an old post but i'm pretty confused. i have the 1 x 2601683 and the same problems above.

i took off the back panel of the freezer and there was 2 sensor wires. all of them were different lengths to the 2601683 i recieved.

1 attaches to the outside of the plastic back panel and 1 attaches to the radiator type thing, which one is it that i should replace being different lengths and forgive my complete lack of knowledge on this, but if both of these sensors are in the freezer section, how would this control the temperature in the fridge?

Thanks very much Marcus,
Just followed your advice about buying and replacing the 2 thermistors and my fridge now seems to be working again.
It was £30 for the parts compared with £110 which Hotpoint wanted to fix it.
Didn't think it had worked at first because the freezer was in Fast freeze mode so it wasn't cooling the fridge but left it over night and the fridge is now at 2 degrees again.

Finally got the problem sorted....

1. Cleaned out the dust from the lower vent and copper tubing at the front.

2. Replaced the washer on the door to make it fit tighter ( and switch off the light )

BEFORE THIS NEXT STAGE UNPLUG FROM MAINS>>>>>>

3. Replace the two sensors inside the freezer section, after removing the shelves, the white plastic cover with a cross head screwdriver( 6 screws). Then unclip the GREEN then YELLOW clips and replace the wires/sensors. Part numbers below:-

------------------------------------------------------
1 x 2601683 - Hotpoint Mistral Fridge Freezer Evaporator Thermistor = £12.58
1 x 2600283 - Hotpoint Mistral Fridge Freezer, Freezer Thermistor = £13.09
------------------------------------------------------

I purchased these from UKWHITEGOODS.CO.UK very fast service and very helpfull.

Now the fridge and freezer both working brilliantly... well worth the bit of work for a few mins...

Hope this is of help to others ( sorry to all the engineers I'm putting out of work )
