How can I mend a collapsed car seat?

Our Isuzu Trooper driver's seat is collapsing. A second-hand seat will a) cost too much and b) may end up with the same problem. I think that we can unbolt it, put in new foam and shore up the broken springing. Would this work or not?

Its the springs in the base that break. You can strip them down and get the spring welded back into place.
