Excellent instructions thanks. But my DC07 has device for stopping the brushes rotating for hard floors. It is a spindle with a clutch device which is in line with the external knob control (operator rotates control about 20 deg to turn brushes on/off). The brush belt is driven by this spindle. Likewise the motor belt drives the othe end of the spindle. A black bespoke cover hides the belts and spindle etc. The cover is held by 3 screws; two visible one down a tube. Removed screws and with a screwdriver I rotated the cover anticlockwise to reveal the drive belt - could not get the cover off completely and could not remove spindle but no matter. But I could now access the belt and take it off the end of the motore spindle. Then back to the instructions.

Use a little fairy liquid or similar on the rubber before re-assembling. Note that the rubber at the spindle end has to go on the right way round or the wires will not reach! Align by eye and it will slide in ok.

I Turn the Motor Upside down placing the Motor spindle on a Socket. a Firm but gentle push pushed the motor out, dead easy

A good way to the motor out of the plastic housing unit: we used a socket over the metal pin turned upside down and pressed the housing down the motor slid out quite easily. Socket size 17 and not a lot of brute strength.

you have to undo the screws at the bottom - all of them
then take the head bit off - ie the bit the revolving brush is on

then once you get the casing off you will be left with the motor inside a plastic unit

you then have to loosen the wire a bit to give you a bit of room to work
then you press the motor out via the side - ie where the belt goes on
the rubber bit will then come off leaving you with the motor.

putting it all back together - well thats another question -- lol

all i can say is good luck

OK I dont know how but having a look at pictures of the motor made me think .. I put a bit of pressure on the shaft of the motor and hey presto is started coming out .. Just before that I was using a screw driver to force the little sod out but I overcome my brute strength with brain power! Happy Days to saving £30 labour charges !
