ford fiesta 1996, 1.8 diesel. intermittent immobiliser fault?

Hello,

Has anyone else had an intermittent fault with their immobiliser on their Ford Fiesta?
Sometimes the car will work no problem, and other times the immobiliser kicks in even before the car starts.
This is an intermittent fauls, and I can find no pattern between when it occurs and when it doesn't.
I have been told that the error code on my car is 32??? Does this mean anything to anyone?
I recently had new keys throughout the car, and had not had any problems prior to this... Is this just conincidence?

All it does on the diesel's is hold the fuel stop on the pump so it will not start and Does no give you a 12v feed to the starter switch , i have to do this on my step dads transit for the same reason , go to the back of the ignition barrel and there are around 4 to 6 wires on the back of it . find the wire that gets 12v when you have the barrell in the crack position . tap into that wire ,then run a wire from there to the starter motor but make sure you fuse it . Then find a wire on the back of the barrell that is live when the ignition is on position 2 (when all dash lights are on ) and goes out once you take the key out , tap into it and run another wire to the fuel pump stop wire (12v wire not the earth) and fuse it some were , with that the van will start . just put a engine in a escourt van the pump immobilliser
kick in and nowt happend so we took it of the old pump immobilliser off and looped it to the new pump via plunger(has two wirers on it)it fired first turn of the key

My car is also a 96/97 1.8 diesel - it seems to be a common fault with these cars! I have never had an intermittent problem with the car is just happend to me today but I was told the master key (red key) would over ride it, which it hasnt.

The costs of sending it to ford scare me but if i send it to a garage first and then they refer me to a ford garage I will end up with two garage bills. I was told by RAC it was giving out a code 13 which im not sure what it is? Not sure the best or cheapest route from here because I may as well sell the car if its going to come to more than £500. Sad times.

Same car as in original question. We've been told it may also be the chip in the key which apparently can be affected by various factors - including other people's remote keys, even though this is not a remote type. Needs to be reprogrammed by a Ford garage - cost estimates vary between £90 and £250 so waiting to see what they say. Very intermittent - once we resolved it by removing and replacing all the relays - very random but eventually it started...not this time though. You might also be successful by disconnecting battery and leaving it for 10 mins before reconnecting - it reboots the system but doesn't always work.

ive got the same problem and im goosed without my car as i am a community support worker anyone know how to resolve this fault fiesta 1.8 diesal 1996 p reg.kind regards craig

I had a similar problem to this ages ago with my 97 Fiesta. The cause of mine was water leaking into the passenger footwell (a common fault on Fiestas) and the water then got into the ECU which is located under the carpet in the footwell.
This buggered up the electronics and caused the immobiliser to play up.
Once it dried out, things worked fine again.... unti the next rain storm which permanantly knackered the ECU.
Was very expensive to repair so might be worth checking for leaks before it gets to that stage.

We have exactly the same car! Make and model too. It has been doing it on and off for a while and now the immobiliser wont let the car start at all. It seems like a loose wire or rusted as we had the starter motor replace. I have been hunting the web for a Solution also! Getting a diagnostic tomorrow. Hope they can fix it too!

this is not an intermitant fault I just put the key in the ignition and nothing can anyone help

32 is the code for a wiring fault. If you are lucky, wiring may be damaged where it plugs into diesel injection pump. I have the same fault. Ford dealer has traced it to the rim on the diesel injection pump. Estimate for repair is £1000. There is unfortunately a lot of labour involved as cam belt has to come off etc. Pump has to be sent away for repair, re- fitted then re-programmed. I'm hoping to have my son's mate do the labour then send pump off for repair. I'll still end up paying £500-600.
