My car door won't open?

I used the ruler answer and it worked!!! Honest it took less than a minute and I am a single lady and needed no help!! Thank you for the sugestion you saved my life!!!!!

I've tried the above with the ruler and this has not worked, is theres anything else that i can try ? We are thinking that the child lock isnt on, as it doesnt have the same pull on the inside door handle as if the lock was on

ruler technique sorted child lock in about 2 mins. win at about 17cms.cheers skippy. once pannel off quite easy to fashion some tough wire(stripped2.5 elec cable) into a hook/latch(needs to hook into small plastic plate inside door. thread through door handle first) Can bend inside door shell a bit to stop it getting ur wrist. WD40 door mechanism to prevent this happening again. Total time under an hour.

i have a t reg fiesta and the drivers door will not open from the outside only the inside how do i fix

I too had the same problem, child lock on and the door wont open from outside or inside. I used a 30cm ruler to turn off the child lock (the non shatter type).Poke it through the side of the door level with the bottom window and you should it a click. It took me about 5 seconds to turn off child lock. As for the door mech, well we will soon see once the panel is off.

cut a thin flexible piece of plastic 30mm x 200 mm from a clear plastic document holder . use it from the outside to push the child lock inwards thereby disengaging it. I'm a far cry from a car thief and i succeeded in 30 seconds .Just check first roughly the area you need to be in from the other door . have the window down and keep trying handle from the inside .
At least then the door is semi functional . To fix the exterior handle link entails removign the door panel and lining up the metal rod which comes off its runner I think or else replacing a plastic rivet that has sheared with a 4mm bolt and nut ...I Havent gone down that road just yet . Might have to if the NCT ( irish MOT inspectors cop that the door is a death trap )

The external door handle is linked to the latch mechanism via a linkage bar which comes out of position sometimes, if the door is slammed too hard. With the child lock on, you can't open it from the inside either.Check this in position before you do anything else.

Hi, my car has the same problem, the n/s/r door is stuck and after walking in the door after work today, I found out the other door wont close. I work with a guy who was at a renault dealership for some time. I'll inquire, as I am in the trade I hope to find a solution. Personally, I cant see how to do it. The door trim card comes of, and I've tried opening the lock from there, but no joy.

I'll inform you if I find out .
