Mend Sunbeam 1-8B Locked Works Lock

How can I fix Mixmaster Model 1-8B so that beaters stay locked in?

I have a Sunbeam Mixmaster Model 1-8B. It works fine except that beaters will not lock in. That is, when handle is rotated, beaters are inserted, and handle is rotated back to normal position, beaters are not locked in place and will fall out.

You do not fold the handle down when inserting beaters. You only fold the handle down to release the beaters. When inserting beaters, have the handle in upright position, insert the beater with the nylon tip in to right side and the all metal beater in to left side. You can feel and hear them click into the lock position.
