Scantronic 9651 - reset user codes without user 1 code?

I have cooper menvier 9651 home alarm and want to change user code.
Spoke to engineer and want £ 85 call out.

How to change use code without engineers call £85 please?
I tried user manual and it asks for master code not known to me.

Thanks Cal , Alarm was Set by installer and couldn’t Reset it after tamper Light was triggered. Followed your instructions and it worked a treat !

Hi, sorry to resurrect an old thread but i am facing the same issue as some people above where i replaced the battery and now the Lid Tamper needs engineers code to reset which i dont have (and i have tried the default engineers code 07890 & 7890).

So i need to reset the user access codes but NOT reset the whole system.
Is that done by shorting the NVN pins ONLY or having to short both the NVN and kick start pins as originally stated?

The symptoms of my issue was that the alarm had been sitting on Lid Tamper for a few years. But the alarm started to go off randomly. I then found out that this was caused by the big battery in the alarm electronics box(located in my hot press). I replaced the battery (6 years old) then followed Cals instructions.

For other people reading this, just follow Cals instructions the NVM pins are clearly visible around th centre of the board, it even says NVM reset below them. They are just 2 pins sticking out (about 7mm long).

Thanks again Cal, you saved my pocket a few pounds and I can keep my hair and heart alitle bit longer!

Enter user code and the fault will appear, eg. Mains Fail. Press tick button to acknowledge. In the event of there being more than one fault, the next will appear (so I gather from the user manual which I had to download as the previous owner of our house hadn't left it for us) and must be acknowledged in turn by pressing the tick button. When all faults have been acknowledged the alarm is ready to set.
Our keypad is a 9930, but this appears in the list of keypads covered by this manual, which I obtained by Google-ing Scantronic 9930 User Manual and selecting the website with a co.uk address.

To reset codes to factory default you must remove the lid from the panel then remove the mains fuse and disconnect the battery, the bell will be goin off but just ignore it because that should happen as the system is being tampered with, the bell has a back up battery inside it thats whats putting voltage to it (if the bell doesnt go off the battery will need replacing or it might not even have one connected to it).
Then put a short across the nvm pins (i normally do it with a flat head screwdriver) whilst kept shorted connect battery first then replace mains fuse then remove screwdriver from the nvm pins and put the lid back on (the bell should now be silent).
Then go to the keypad and test with the factory default codes, the engineers code will be 07890 and user code will be 1234 i think (if this hasnt worked go through procedure again and make sure the nvm pins have been shorted properly).
The date and time will need changing to do that its usually user code (1234) then press 6 or engineers code (07890) 51 tick, when changed press 99 tick to leave engineers mode.
To change the user code enter user code (1234) then press 4 then it will ask you for the old code which is the current user code 1234 then press tick then it will say user 1, pressing tick again will allow you to change it and pressing cross will move onto user 2 code then user 3 and so on.
This will save you a shocking call out fee!

Triggered my alarm by leaving the house too slow/late. My user code would stop the alarm but then not clear the system so it could be reset.

I dare say an actual circuit fault is harder as the wiring would then have to be fixed or a PIR replaced. Basically - If a householder trys John-Boy's tip exactly as written and it doesn't work they probably do need to call someone out. You will know yourself whether you triggered the alarm through sheer stupidity or whether it just fired for some technical fault reason I am sure.

(Reset = 0789099 as long as system not broken)

To perform a reset

1. Check that the display is showing the alarm condition.

2. Key in 0 followed by the engineers code (default 7890) followed by 99. (tick tick)

The display shows the time and date.

As SiBaz mentioned. Go into engineer mode and change user 1 code. You do not need to open up the panel. Follow manual instauctions.

As everyone has said, if you break the tamper circuit on a Scantronic alarm, when it is in 'Day' mode, it will go off. If you kill the backup battery, then you are also killing the auxiliary power circuit (this powers all the PIR detectors, Fire detectors and charges the Bell Box), then if the Bell has a 'Self Activating Bell Module' or SABM then it will go off, as if someone had just ripped it off the wall.
If however you use your installers code (enter 0 then the code, so for 1234 enter 01234), then the system goes into Engineering Mode and won't view a break of the tamper circuit as a threat.
If you are up a ladder by the bell box when the alarm goes off, it is quite unpleasant, so if you intend to cut the power to an alarm, first go into engineering mode, then go up the wall and remove the cover to the bell and isolate the bell battery, then the SABM won't go off when you remove the main battery.

That said, if you simply reset the NVM chip on the alarm, you will loose all the settings (like walk paths and part set groups), so if you have the installers code, it is simpler just to enter this, and change the user codes using the programmer interface.

If you have the code numbers for this, I'd appreciate it if you posted them on here, I remember from doing it a million times that the numbers 90 and above test the system once it's been worked on (and 99 puts it back into day mode), but I can't remember the code number for reprogramming the various user codes.

Hi Douglas,

the reason the external bell is going off is bcos it has its own backup battery that is designed to kick in in the event of a powercut or someone tampering with the main alarm panel. There is a technical way to silence it however the easiest way is to literally open the bell up and disconnect the pos or neg inside and then reconnect it again after u have reset the panel. Just a word of warning tho, wear ear plugs when doing this and let the neighbours know in advance.

Thanks for this information.

Firstly, how is the external alarm still going off when I have cut the power to the house and unhoooked the battery?

secondly, if I go through the process of shorting the pins whilst the external alarm is going off, will the access codes still reset as the manual says they should?

The short answer is no.

This is what happens when an alarm system is 'tampered with', because that is what you would be doing.
The alarm does not distinguish between owner/engineer or crook.

It is possible for an engineer to do this silently but not without a certain amount of knowledge and playing about with wires.

You need an engineer.
