UPVC WINDOW STUCK?

My bedroon UPVC window is stuck. I can turn the handle bu the window won't open. I have been quoted £65 for the job. Is it reasonable? Will the repair effect the seal?

Any ideas if I can do it myself.

Also how can I prevent other windows with this kind of damage- any care tips.

Thankyou very much

could be 1 of two things first the spindle in the handle has come out and is not moving the lock.to see if it is this unscrew the handle, you will see 1 screw when you open the window as such and the other will be under a cap above the handle.when you have the handle off if the spindal drops out this is your problem but try a flat headed screw driver in the hole were the spindle goes and turn it to see if it open the window.if that is the problem you just need a handle 10 pound at the most(www.safensound).if its not that try forceing the window it maybe that it has stuck to the black gaskett around the opener so if you get it open put some talc on the black gaskett

yes the price is reasonable and if they know what they are doing the seal will be as it was when it stuck shut,i would not recomend you try to do it yourself as it is a tricky job, depending on lock that is stuck and you can use vasaline to lubricate all moving parts of the locks on your windows and doors,if anymore of your windows and doors are hard to lock the same thing could happen to them as your putting to much stress on the gearbox's or lock mechanisms.hope this helps
