The brakes will continue to work fine, but the fact that the ABS light is displaying shows that there is a fault....it could be as simple as a wire disconnected from the wheel sensor or too much road dirt in there, and fixing this will turn the light back off. You'll need to have this checked out though as there are safety and MOT issues.
