Several possibilities - the coolant level is low, the thermostat has stuck shut or the cylinder head gasket has or is starting to blow or the cooling fans aren't working...best get it checked out soon as overheating problems can cause bills to rocket.....

Have you got any water in the cooling system ? I know it's a stupid question but it needs asking.
