How can i fix Hotpoint DWF50 Aquarius?

Great advice from Geoff, Kevin and Tony. Small piece of plastic was blocking the pump in my DWF50.

As per Kevin's instructions - the fix was simple and spot on - after removing the pump, I found a small toothpick that was stuck in the fins - also found the following Youtube video was helpful to make the fix even more foolproof:

Hi,

Dishwasher was originally displaying wash indicator lights 3 + 5 (eco + pre) flashing rapidly - Filter is clogged. Pull out the filter and clean it.. Cleaned filter several times but to no avail.

Then decided to take dishwasher outside tilt on its side to have a look inside. Unscrewed metal plate at the bottom and unscrewed some clip on metal plate which was sitting on white foam ( could it be the anti flood trigger). Then put back together again.

However when i now turn on dishwasher it starts to cycle with water however a leak is appearing in bottom front on right and left hand side

Any ideas or help would be greatly appreciated

Tried Ahmad - Jordan's suggestion first (no disassembling was required) but it didn't work for me.

Next I went to Kevin's very popular suggestion and hey presto I have a working dishwasher again.

Good advice from Eanna about not taking off the O-ring. Just unscrew the 3 star screws, twist head of the pump anti-clockwise and with a little wiggle it popped open. An apple stem almost cost me new machine! Putting it back together was easy and it is now running through a test cycle as I type.

Only other thing to note is - I turned my machine onto it's left hand side - a small amount of water from the inlet pipe did leak onto the floor - so put a towel down.

remember to disconnect the source of power while working. you are responsible about your safety. I have Hotpoint DWF50 Aquarius working for me fine since 5 years. recently a fault with flashing lights for the fast and 45 started. I read the suggestions in this thread.
- Get the drain hose on the floor to drain all water, but be aware to collect the water in a receiver and waste it in the sink after that.
- clean the drain filter from inside. No need to turn the dish washer upside down or on its side. Just open the main door as you want to put the dishes inside.
- get the drain filter pieces outside, wash them and then rinse under running water.
- connect the drain hose to tap and open the water to reverse the cycle and this will bring any blocking pieces again to the place where the filters fixed.
- collect all those pieces and bits and get rid of them. - drain the water again by lowering the hose into the ground into receiver.
- repeat as required all the above steps until you clean the drain system of the dishwasher.
- then fix everything back and turn the dishwasher again on and see if it is working.

i had the same problem but it was a DWF61 but used the same logic but it all done from the inside of the machine now.take out the filters, drain down the water,take off the cover to the pump impellar on the left of the filter sump only one screw. then rotate the pump impellar and clean out the rubbish. mine was a very small used cable tie, how it got who knows. put the cover back and the filters and it worked and i know i do not need to move ot the dishwasher from the kitchen units.

Great step by step instructions, mine was a build up of fluffy stuff!! On the rebuild I hadn't attached the O ring back properly so had a leak but this was soon sorted!! I feared the worst at the beginning but found this on the net, thanks guys I couldn't of done it without this thread, cheers

hi my dishwasher keeps flashing Eco 45 and pre wash. Also salt refil light comes on even after ive filled it up. Any ideas thanks.

had a similar problem.
did as advised by Kevin.
the problem was not a blockage but the flap of the rubber one-way valve at the junction of water pump and waste waterpipe was stuck into the pipe and was not functioning
just pulled it out with a screw driver.
now it is working fine.
the only problem I encountered was the fresh water inlet, which I could not reconnect properly and is now dripping.
seems will have to call the plumber to fix that.

Excellent advice about clearing the jammed pump on the dwf50. It worked a treat. In theory this shouldn't happen - perhaps the debris gets into the pump when the filter is removed for cleaning. It was the dreaded apple stalk again so I will be extra carefull next time I do this.

fantastic instructions - so far so good - and I'm a complete novice !!! A bit of chicken bone (the end of a wishbone?) fell out of the pump ... oh - and definately take note about NOT removing the two screws in the centre of the baseplate. For easier access to the two side screws at the front, remove the feet of the dishwasher

Same issue as original post - machine starts then 10mins into the wash it stops and lights 3 and 4 come on (eco and fast). There is also residual water in the unit.

I followed the instructions below from Tony and Geoff. Here is a bit more detail for novices like myself!

1) Drain the residual water out of the machine by lowering the hose for the waste water to ground level. Collect the water from the hose in a pan.

2) Put the machine on it's side

3) Remove the metal plate by unscrewing the 6 screws around the sides of the base - do not touch the screws in the middle of the plate!

4) Locate the waste water pump (the one conneced to the waste water pipe).

5) Remove the screw that attaches it to the water trough (small tapping screw).

6) Remove the pump from the water trough by turning it counter clockwise (by around 10 degrees) with your hand.

7) Remove the waste water pipe by releasing the o-ring that holds it.

8) Turn the fins of the water pump by placing a screwdriver into the end that connected it to the water trough - any debris should fall out the side that was attached to the waste water pipe.

And that's it.....5mins....

In my case the debris was a match - as soon as it was removed, eveything worked as before.

This dish washer has always been so reliable for me so I was mortified to see the two flashing lights yesterday.

However, thanks to the advice of Geoff and Tony my dish washer is working again! Really easy to fix too. The most time consuming bit was emptying all the plates out and syphoning out the dirty water. Only took 15-20 minutes to open it up and then extract the pieces from the pump.

My offending item was two small pieces of dried out turkey!

I shall be paying closer attention to the filters from now on...

EXCELLENT ADVICE I ALSO DID NOT NEED TO REMOVE THE WATER HOSE JUST UNDID THE SCREW AND TWISTED IT OFF PIECE OF A CHIPPED CUP WAS THE OFFENDER

Found this really useful and it also resolved my problem. Tony's hints were spot on. One note to add which may save some time is that I didn't need to disconnect the hose from the pump, just removed the one screw which keeps the pump in position and then twisted it off.

I followed the advice of Geoff (June 2008) after 'eco' and 'fast wash' lights flashed. Just switched off mains. I didn't have to undo water inlet or outlet hoses. I turned the machine on its side and removed the bottom cover - held on by 6 self tapping screws. I disconnected the wire attached to the cover. I then released the water pump by taking off the water hose on one side and removing the screw holding it to the water trough and twisting it off. It was then easy to turn the fins of the pump releasing the offending article - the stem of a pear! It doesn't take much to block it but this is the first problem we have had in 6 years so no complaint!

Take out and clean your lower and upper spray arms.
The bottom one had bits of chipped crockery in it.The upper one a bit of platic bag(?????) and some of the door seal rubber.
Mine works fine now.
No screw driver, no mop nor an expensive call out!!

Hi. I've had this problem a couple of times with our DWF50. On both occasions it was caused by a chip of china from broken crokery or such which had made it through the filter system at the bottom of the washing cavity and got stuck in the fins of the drain pump. Thus the drain pump stalled and the water remained casueing the fault code descrobed above to show and the washer ceasing the wash. I figured out after the second time that we were not putting the filter back together correctly and thus the chunk got through. The fix needs the washer to be discconected from all services and then turned over onto it's top as the pump is at bottom of the unit. Not for the unexperienced but if you are resonably handy worth a go if the other option is an expensive service engineer or new dishwasher!

Try cleaning your filter and pouring boiling water into it then use a plunger (be careful of the hot water).
The outlet pipe could be clogged.
