My heating/cooling Fan in my 1996 Clio isn't working? It works sometimes?

My heating/cooling Fan in my 1996 1.2 Clio isn't working? It works sometimes? Every now and then it comes on and works fine but when I turn the car of it stops again and won't come on again for a couple of months. I think I might have something to do with the wireing but don't want to mess around too much incase a break something else. Any help would be most appreciated. Thank You for you time.

Thank you for you time but the fan I am talking about is located inside my car its the one for demisting you front window. If you can help me again thank you.

electric fans are not designed for continuous use, normally to test operation find the sensor located in the side of the radiator remove the 2 wires with the ign on bridge the wires together the FAN MUST OPERATE,modern cars rely on air flow to cool the radiator hence the fan will work in a traffic jam normally trips in before the red.
