Mend Dyson DC04 Vacuum Cleaner Suction

My Dyson DC04 makes a shrieking noise. What is it afraid of?

My Dyson DC04 makes an ear-splitting shriek shortly after starting, and suction is impaired. Can anyone suggest a cause, and how to repair it?

I had the same problem and phoned Dyson as it was still under warranty. They sent me a replacement filter and it fixed the problem. Never had a squeak since.
