Hi ,First THANKS PETER.
I tried Peter Kay's solution of taking off the back ( stand first ,then speaker , then back cover) and sure enough found a capacitor that had a bulging top on the PSU (power supply unit) board . Removed the board by undoing 4x screws and disconnecting the 4x sets of wires going to it. *IMPORTANT* Made a note of which way the cap fitted (should be a strip down one side to help with this). Then unsoldered the pins of the faulty cap and removed solder ( using a solder remover tool ).Went to Maplins with the faulty cap and showed them and asked for the same type (25v 1000uf in my case ,which cost just 44p). Attached new cap same way round as the old. Soldered and hey presto SORTED!
Nice one Peter you helped me fix my TV for 44 p , outstanding.
