dyson dc04 how can i fix it?

how can i take the covering where the cable lead goes into the cleaner at the back of the dyson - there does not seem to be any screws holding it on - does it just clip off as i think there is a wire loose

A long thin electrical screwdriver is the best tool, the base of the yellow power button has a clip with a lip on it, 1) push the screwdriver through the small slit on the flat side of the power button, 2) push down and into the yellow power button , may not work immediately i got it after a couple of goes 3) the power button will lift up slightly itself and just pull it out using your fingers 4) once power button removed u will see one 6 point screw, unscrew and remove switch housing, 5) 2 brown wires 1 blue good idea to label the brown wires 1 and 2 then you won't be confused replacing them back, 6) my DC04 had a broken wire from the main lead simply cut of broken wire and simply replace and fit job, common problam in DC04, Hope this has helped mine is sorted ! peace

rich b, any clues on that "suitbale implement" ? I've been trying for ages with a variety of things and am still struggling.

You have to remove the switch button first. Poke a suitable implement into the small groove between the straight section of the switch and the main body of the cleaner. This should release the catch holding the button and you can pull it out. Once the button is out you can remove the screw holding the switch assembly in place.

You'll probably find the fault is a break in the cable just before it goes into the stich rather than a loose connection but you still have to take the switch assembly out to mend it properly. Mine has broken about three times.
