why dose my engine management light keep comeing on??

ive just bourght a v/hall vectra turbo diesal on a r plate,the engine management light keeps comeing on and iam loseing power when it dose,BUT ive had it looked at and theyve said that theres nothing wrong and that its a commen falut with the year and modle of the car,iam in need of help
