Peugeot 406 HDI Loss Of Power?

Hi, I'm having a problem with my 406 HDI. Some months ago, I had an issue with the warning lights coming on and with a diagnostic wotsit I got codes 220 and 380. One is the airbag (which by wobbling a connection under the passenger seat comes and goes) and the other I thought to be the air mass flow meter. The car has been running fine until very recently. Recently, it has an appalling loss of power, the mpg is showing a significant reduction across the speed range compared to what it used to be. Upon startup it runs rough and on pulling away, it feels like it's being starved of fuel, although the mpg meter doesn't show this. It really struggles to reach 70 mph. I have replaced the mass flow meter with a brand new one from a dealer, but to no avail, the problem continues. I'm also going to replace the fuel filter, but I can't see this as being the problem if the fuel consumption is way up! Anyoone any ideas?

hi i have a peugeot 406 1.9 td its got a hairline crack on the fuel pump on the engine block i have had bad starting problems it struggles to start then i attemted to start it it was gushing diesel from the engine area ? upon inspection i squeezed the primer bulb to see it trickling out from the fuel pump it now wont start period but prior to this it was bad starting rough running lots off blue smoke upon start up if i got it goin at all any remedys or solutions thanks

i have a expert 53 plate 1.9 losing power on motoway black smoke coming out any one any ideas pls

I have a peugot 406 sti which is also losing power and I am assuming its the air throttle body can someone assist.

I had the same problem with my 406 hdi 90, runs rough
on start up when cold, on acceration it would hesitate
almost as if the turbo had turned off, but not all the time. This first happened two years ago, and the engine just cut out. Peugeot replaced the fuel filter
housing which has a small valve in the bottom, which had stuck. The same problem has just manifested
itself two weeks ago, I changed the filer housing and things are fine again. Just to add my 406 has done
two hundred and fortyfive thousand miles, same
engine same injecters. Hope this helps.

Check fuel filter housing for air entering system. Hp pump works but inefficiently under load when you have a hairline crack in housing. Was mega costly mistake not to check first.. think new pump, injectors etc before discovering £45 part was all that was required.

Before you change the ECU try disconnecting it. (Its inside the box on the left of the radiator next to the windscreen wash bottle) It worked for me when I left it disconected over night

Has the fuel filter housing got metal filings in it?
If so this may point to the fuel pump breaking up

hi steve i have the same problem
change the ecu . By changing the ecu you will have to change the keys aswell..
