Toilet with air button not flushing?

hi, phoned herga regarding replacement parts after I had carried out the blow test & toilet flushed ok. the black "bellows" - part number 6442, pack of 4 replacements on way cost £21.65. have sealed split temporarily with sellotape, so far has worked ok, so hopefully will do me till new parts arrive. have to thank people for all previous answers that helped me, identify problem, how to dismantle parts & carry out a temporary working solution.

Contrary to previous posts Herga did not send me replacement belows free of charge. The part in question is now sold in packs of 4 at a cost of £21. That said they were helpful and they knew exactly what I was referring to.
So if you can't find cheaper elsewhere (£7 each on Amazon) I'm sure Herga are fine

the diapham in the button is sticking.it spits in the middle take apart and smear round outside edge with vaseline trouble solved

Updating, I have the same problem after 5 years installed and I think that Helga have been taken over by another Company -Farnell who reputedly have an agent for Ireland in Dublin. I have emailed both companies and to date no acknowledgment does anyone have up to date info on agents?

Wrap Sellotape around the shoulder (where the split is likely to be) of the black bellows, instant fix, 5 mins max.

Take the button apart and you may find a split in the bellows.I mended mine with an innertube patch,This will do until I get a replacement part.

Yep after reading the comments I contacted Herga. They sent me a replacement and a spare free of charge and talked me through how to refit it. Well done Kerrie, Kelvin and Tracy. Great after sales service.

Herga did the same for me. Part code 6442 and ask for replacement rubber bellows. They know all about this part splitting after about five years. Sent me one free of charge.

Hi,

The bulb was slit when I took my push button apart.

I tried to seal it with a bicycle puncture repair kit but struggled to get the glue to stick well enough for a tight seal.

I found by wrapping the bulb brown packaging tape (the stuff you use to tape up cardboard boxes) it sealed the bulb.

All working again fine now but not sure how long this fix will work for.

Read all the questions and answers which was very useful concerning the air operated flush problem.Stripped the push button down and found a split in the black diaphragm.Rang Herga on 01284 701 422.very pleasant and helpful.Two new diaphragms sent off straight away free of charge. Great after sales.

Just called Herga, very helpfull and they are sending out 2 replacement diaphragms free of charge by 1st class post tonight, called on the number mentioned above, I even stated that people have paid 5.95 delivered but no, free of charge...not often you get that sort of service :)

Call Herga the manufacturers of the air button on 01284 701 422 and speak with either Kelvin, Brian or Kate to buy a replacment 'internal bellows' for just a few pounds.

simple answer, Dont buy air flush, they made it so this part would break so u have to buy them for extortionate prices.

Found I could buy a replacement button for about £12 from cpc.farnell.com

Before ordering, rang Herga to see what they could do. Opened the button up (twist and pull to separate the chrome fascia from the white body - its not on a thread, just pushed in tightly), to see the rubber diaphragm inside - it has a split in it. They can post out a replacement diaphragm for £5.75, so two for the same price as the cheapest button I could find (some retailers wanted up to £39 for the button!!)

I had same problem today. The toilet has not been flushing properly. I opened up the cabinet, and saw the piece said Hergo. I called them on 01284 701 422. He talked me through removing the piece. Then to test, i blew down pipe to flush manually. it worked fine.
he told me to send him th epiece, he would fix it and send back to me the same day, total result, didnt have to pay for plumber, they were excellent. just done this, so hopefully will get it back by the weekend.
Very easy, for somehting i thought was going to be a major headache!

Refer to my first answer to this problem above.

I ordered a new button complete from sales@bathroomhut.com and this arrived this morning, but, when I started to replace it I found that the unit did not have the all important hollow rubber cylinder thing inside it. I have of course taken this up with the above supplier, which can only be done by email and still await their response. Meanwhile motivated by the desire to have a loo that flushes, I started frantically searching the internet for a supplier and found: http://www.herga.com/about/ Herga Electrics. They manufacture air buttons for electrical applications but also supply air buttons for concealed toilet systems. I got onto the website and found a telephone number answered by a most helful guy called Brian who knew all about it. He knew exactly what I was talking about. He called them "Black mushroom things that fit inside the button"
£5 each and a minimum order of £20. I ordered four as I think this problem will definitely be repeated....so I am all ready for next time now. Hopefully I can get my money back from Bathroom Hut !

I have just had the same problem. The air button was no longer working as it must have sprung a leak. I was able to purchase a replacement from the plumb center for £26. Works OK now

The answer from Michael Stephens above is good and I did the test blowing down the tube to make the toilet flush and it worked just as he said. So I know my problem is in the button. I took the button off (It just unscrews) and found inside it a rubber hollow cylinder to which the tube I just blew down to flush the toilet is attached. This is split and obviously the cause of the problem. I have found the whole button on the internet for £75 ! The rubber cylinder should cost no more than 2 or 3 pounds. Obviously this problem could happen again so I am searching for a supplier of the rubber cylinders. If anybody knows one I would be most grateful for that information, if not and I succeed in finding one I'll come back to this site and name the supplier.

disconnect air tube from button back of fascia cover it should just pull out blow hard down tube if toilet flushes its the button needs replacing try plumbers merchant hope this works as it did for me this w/e just need new button.

pull the air tube off the rubber joint at the button end and gently blow down the pipe until it flushes if all is ok make sure the button is releasing and not trapping in its housing then put a drop of washing up liquid on the rubber part of the tube and push the pipes back together ensuring an air tight seal. if this does not cure the problem a plumber will be needed to replace the syphon diaphram which is a tricky job,regards joe
