what happens when the control indicator light comes on on a vauxhall corsa?

the engine electronics control indicator has come on whilst the engine is running what happens if i continue to use the car?

mine used to come on but a quick rev on the engine got rid of it this has been going on for about 2years so far nothing has happened car hanbook says as long as the light only comes on for a short while all is ok
