I have a huge leak which occurs when the engine is started. After some investigation it looks like a screw has shot out of the alternator? and hit the fuel filter. It has punctured the filter and this is where the oil is pouring from. Does this make sense and if so will tapping the leak with electrical tape do the trick so i can run it about 1/2 mile to the local garage?

Presumably you mean that its the oil filter that has been punctured? Either way, tape won't fix this leak so scrounge a lift to your nearest motor factors and get a new one....you'll trash the motor if the oil runs out - its just not worth the risk.
