could it pos. look like an engine crossed out? if so engine management light, indicating fault with injection/emissions, will need to have fault read with code reader, some can be done by connecting a wire across data-link connector, but cant remember at the moment which wires to join, may get back to you.

pos. bulb failure, does in go out when press brakes?
needs brake pedal pressed to check brake light circuit, if not check bulbs, eg. headlights, side lights, brake light bulbs etc...make sure correct bulbs are fitted.
