How to replace a Roca Giralda Soft Close Toilet Seat?

How do you relace the seat for this make of toilet. The Cover has broken at the hinge point.

I've contacted Roca a couple of times now and they don't appear to want to know about the issue. They redirect me to Reece. I initially purchased the toilet from Harvey Norman and they aren't interested either as it is over 12 months old.

Can someone provide a contact number in Australia that might put me in touch with someone that may be willing to help?

I called Customer Service because like everyone else the left hinge on my Roca Giralda toilet broke. They said I needed a proof of purchase and they would send me a replacement. Unfortunately, we didn't have the proof of purchase because we purchased our flat with the roca toilets already installed. I believe this is a manufacturing defect so it should be covered even without the proof of purchase, but they wouldn't provide me with the replacement. I will purchase another brand from now on, as it seems this is a common problem.

Phoned Roca mid December - said would send a hinge set FOC immediately. Didn't arrive so called again and a "replacement" was with me in a couple of days.

Roca - Soft close toilet seat hinges caps were originally made of chrome plated cheap plastic which crack, break into pieces and the chrome starts to peal of usually after 1-2 years exposing horrible looking rusty green plastic. After thousands of complains from unhappy customer from around the world, Roca decided to redesign those hinges caps and now they are made of solid chrome platted brass. Hope they will last lot longer. Not been aware about this issue, I order one set of complete hinges and one set of chines caps for my two toilets - from UK. I spend all up about 80 Pound so far and just today, I discovered big cracks in the hinges of reminding two toilets (I have 4 toilets in my house). I am getting sick of this cheap product and will request from Roca 2 sets of new (metal) hinges caps and refund of 80 Pound that I paid to fix the Roca's problem with the bad product. I paid heaps of money to get the one of the best product available on Australian market and now I have nothing but problem after problem with it.

I hope it will be helpful.

Just confirming for Australians - Harvey Norman still knows nothing about this and will sting you for a new seat at ~$200. If it's just the cap off the soft-close hinge that's broken, Roca will replace it if you contact them via the form on their website:

Questions:

1. Will a new hinged Giralda seat connect to the existing pillars on a Giralda Soft Close toilet?
AND
2. Do I need to new pillars compatible or threaded screws to secure the new hinged seat of the existing soft close ceramic toilet?

3. Is it possible to purchase Giralda hinges as a replacement for a damaged soft close hinges?

You don't have to replace the whole seat - just the hinges.
There is a grub screw at the rear. (Use a hand mirror to see it if necessary). Get the right allen key and loosen from both hinges and take the seat/cover assembly off the toilet. There is a chrome spigot on each hinge. Remove them. If you ruin them, you get new ones with the new set of hinges anyway. Four screws are revealed now. One pair removes the seat cover, the other the seat. Buy a set of new hinges on the internet and replace. You maybe can reassemble the seat only whilst waiting for the hinges.

I am in Australia and the hinges on my Roca toilet have peeled and have turned green too. I have just contacted the retailer where we bought the toilet suite and they have no knowledge of a faulty product. I have emailed them some details from this forum and asked them to help me investigate. I have experienced the same problem as the person in the USA - i have found hinges (very expensive) but only in the UK and they don't mail them over here. Very frustrating.

Hi,

I've just replaced mine with a fairly "bog" standard toilet sitting - still with the easy slow close. Like somebody else the roca silver plastic fittings go green after a while and rot - totally rubbish IMHO. You basically need a tiny fitting alan key to remove the silver bits; once you've done that the seat comes off. Then you will be left with two screws - another larger alan key to remove them - then you wil be left with 2 plastic fittings - you can remove them using a flat screwdriver. Getting a new seat on was a major pain - i assembled before i put the whole thing back on then you tighten it up from underneath - at least that's what i did with a cheaper alternative toilet seat - which will hopefully last longer than the ROCA pile of rubbish.

Where are you guys buying the hinges from?
My hinges work, but are green and the chrome paint is peeling off. Not looking good any more.

If it is online, I can order new hinges from there.

Taking the seat off is easy enough - as long as you realise that there is an allen key screw at the back (on top). But the hinges come off still attached to the seat.

I am not sure how to remove the hinges from the seat itself (which is what I will need to do to replace it).

Yes, same as you guys. Roca do a 2 yr warranty so i'm going to buy new hinges and do it myself. Shame about the poor materials choice in the hinge for such a stylish product range

I have the same problem with my Roca seat - except mine is the right hand side hings as you look at it! I'm so glad I found this site and will be ringing Roca tomorrow as I don't think I should be expected to fork out almost £100 for a replacement. Thanks guys!

Thanks to Claire for info re getting replacement seat from Roca free of charge. Contacted Roca, they supplied a letter for us to take to plumbers' merchants, seat arrived this week and we've just fitted it in about 10 minutes. Instructions and allen keys came with the seat. Removal of old seat and fitting of new one is done from ABOVE the toilet pan so no need to worry about getting your hands through the space at the back of the toilet. If hinges are loose on your present seat, they may be able to be tightened using an allen key at the back of the hinge. Roca were very helpful, so should be able to answer any queries.

Great news, just got my free replacement toilet seat. City Plumbing sorted it with Roca so I am delighted. apparently if it breaks again I can get another replacement free, and this arrangement is available until the replacement hinges arrive on the market. Brilliant news, great response from both Roca and City Plumbing. Hope this helps.

Just got off the phone to Roca (01530 830080) spoke to the technical manager called Alan Jonas. There is apparantly a fault with the materials (plastic) they used for the hinges. They are fully aware and admit the problem. They will issue replacement toilet seats free if you go to the company you got it from. The company you got the toilet from need to fax the details of who the supplier was as Roca will send a credit to their direct account so a free seat can be supplied. The fax number of Roca is 01530 830010. Note: they will only credit by direct account...so good luck. I am calling the plumbing shop I got mine from now!!! Of note also, Alan said that a new design for the hinges may take up to a year to complete.

I am on my third replacement Roca Giralda toilet seat, and it has just broken again. clearly an absolute design failure. can't believe a supposed designer brand has produced such a shoddy and expensive product. finding this site has been a godsend, so I will be calling ROCA tomorrow to see if they will replace free of charge. Will let you know how I get on

Our Roca Giralda toilet seat is barely 18 months old. The 'metal' parts have gone a horrible green colour, and yesterday one of the hinges broke. It looks disgusting and is barely fit for purpose. I've just emailed Roca to see what they have to say on the matter... if they reply.

I have found you can get a replacement hinge set from Roca - but it is almost as much as a new cover.

To replace it, there are a couple of Allen key screws hidden at the back: undo those and hey presto! it lifts off easily

RE:::Dave (March 2010)

I have the same problem of the left hinge breaking off from my ROCA soft close toilet seat. I am very interested in understanding where ROCA has agreed liability of the bad product. Has the management company got any reference / evidence that I can use to get ROCA to replace my faulty seat?

I live in HK and have two toilets with this system. They both broke at the same time so they must be dodgy. Anyway, managed to get hinges only but does anybody have any tips on how to fit ? The roca toliet is not easy to access and take the main rocker off which I thougfht would be the logical way to assembly first and then slot it onto the toliet pan.

I wish somebody could answer this. When we had the new bathroom fitted I was advised to buy a spare toilet seat (I wonder why !). I therefore have a new spare one but I really do not know how to remove the old one safely and then replace it so that it does not break immediately on the left side like so many others. Any help would be much appreciated.

I bought Roca Soft close toilet seat and the hinge went. Returned it ot company I bought from and was told that I must have overused it and I must have forced the lid down. I was also told that there had never been any complaints about hinges breaking- that I was the first. I was told I would need to buy another seatcover so I bought an ordinary one. The hinges went on that but this time I searched the internet and was able to buy hinges from a company in Glasgow along the London Rd. Cannot remember the name of Company.

Not much help I am afraid however we too have had exactly the same problem with this product. It strikes me there is a faulty design or poor quality materials as the cause. Either way Roca should be ashamed of themselves....

I have had exactly the same problem - left side hinge as you look at it, where it screws in to the lid. I've found plenty of places to buy a new lid set, but all I need is the hinge and lid (as the screw which sheared is still stuck inside the socket)!

Hi,

I have the same seat. Less than a year old and as you look at it closed it is the hinge on the left hand side that broke.
Info on not being able to buy a new hinge was very helpful thanks,

John
May 2009
I have the same issue. The fabricated plastic (chrome) cap that's screwed into the lid fractured on the screw hole. Tried araldite but by re-screwing the lid you put the very bit you glued under stress and hence it breaks again.

Spoke to Roca and they say you can't buy the hinge alone. Perhaps you and I could go dutch on a new one if you haven't already bought one and if different parts have gone wrong. With lid closed, for me, it's the left side piece that's screwed to the lid, you ? If you have bought a replacement one, perhaps I buy soem of your spare pieces ?
