how can i change belt on bottom of a dyson dc 14

An iterim measure, while your waiting for a new belt to be delivered, is to romeve the belt and turn inside out then replace it. The vacumn will work like new but for a limited time, i.e. intil your new belt is deliverd.

This works as the belt loses grip. This can be seen by the used side being shiny and the unused side being dull.

I agree with Kerry and Amy in that you have to put the belt on the spindle first. A few years ago I used the same method as described to pull the belt through and then attach it to the brush bar. It was difficult but I did it eventually. However, I have recently had cause to replace the belt again and found a much easier way of doing the job. Once you have released the brush bar, release the brush bar housing; this will allow you easier access to the belt and more room for manouvring the belt and brush bar. Fix the belt to the brush bar then refix the brush bar to the brush bar housing, then refix the brush bar housing and brush bar to the cleaner chassis. This can be done using both hands and makes the job much easier. Hope this will help someone.

I agree with Riley and Amy. The basic point is to put the belt on the spindle first, and then using twine (or pliers and screwdrivers) to pull it through the slot and then over the brush. Once over the brush you then turn the brush easing the belt along the groove until it fits into the slot.

We decided the easiest way was to put the belt around the spindle, tie a bit of string to it and pull the belt through the slot while a second person pushes the brush through. Once on turn the brush to put into place.

Try lots of times using several family members. Then throw Dyson across the room and shout a lot. Try again later. Very difficult and testing way to spend a Saturday.

Dyson DC 14 vacuum cleaner motor belt fixing . You need the entire clutch assembly which costs £19.00 in the UK .Both belts come pre fixed. You can only buy and fix the clutch belt separately . The motor belt cant be changed it is sold with the clutch assembly pre fixed . You also need a special tool to fix it to the brush assembly. If you try and do this any other way you will hurt your fingers.Shame on dyson. Write to James dyson and tell him he is ripping off his customers making this operation a costly fix by a repair store.

I agree with Kerry Livermore's method. I used a pair of (very) long nosed pliers, and two screwdrivers. The first screwdriver, a large one, i used to "take over" from the pliers, and then, with the belt held by the large screwdriver I used the smaller screwdriver to gradually move the belt along the brush spindle.
Dyson's suggested method is, in my opinion, impossible without a special tool of some kind.

I first tried as Dyson sugest by removing the brush, putting the belt round the brush and then taking the belt through the slot for belt and on to and motor spindle. Found this hard even after trying to push the belt with a rounded stick.
Then I put the belt on to the spindle and then pulled the belt through the slot with the dysons head as close as possible to the spindle and pushed the brush through the belt and then spinning the brush till the brush and the belt were in place.
Phew! this could be made simple - need a little bit more thought Mr Dyson.

I've just done this on a DC14 and found it impossible to fit the belt the way Dyson suggest. Instead I have put it on the spindle first, and then fed the belt through the soleplate. I pulled it through with thin plyers, and then put this through a screwdriver. I then pulled it over the brush and fed it into the right position, turning the brush to help this. It worked and I can't believe the difference it makes.

Hi, go to www.sparesaver.com and look at their 'Help & Support' section. They have superb full instructions including colour photographs of troubleshooting Dyson problems.

It depends which model of DC14. If you have a control knob on your cleaner head then you need a whole clutch assembly. If you don't have a control knob then you just need an ordinary DC01 belt. Turn m/c upside down and take the soleplate off by undoing the 3 screws. Thread the belt on the brush and feed through belt slot, hook belt on to motor spindle. Refit the soleplate. You can usually find instructions on the Dyson website.
