The off button on my Panasonic phone does not work?

I also regret throwing away an older Panasonic phone because of sticky buttons, now that I've successfully cleaned up the "Talk" button.

Ditto to Chrissy. 51 year old female, and by taking Stephen and Albie's advice I repaired my Panasonic KX-TG2258. Just sorry I threw away my other cordless panasonic!

I was having the exact same problem with my panasonic cordless phone "off" button sticking, (same model as Beryl,) and I want to thank Stephen and Albie for the info they shared on how to take the phone apart and clean it. I am a middle aged female and thanks to them I was able to successfully disassemble the phone, clean it and put it back together without breaking anything. Yay! Now I don't have to spend money on getting a new phone. The button works great again.

I want to thank Stephen who answered this question in December of 2007. I just started having a problem with a couple of buttons on a different Panasonic cordless model. I got to the point where even pressing the buttons hard wouldn't work. Thank you Stephen. I just took the phone apart, cleaned the circuit board with alchohol (where button contacts are) and it works like new!! You just saved me $80.00. Note to anyone else trying this fix. Make sure you take your time taking the halves of the phone apart (pry as you move upward to top of phone, be sure you have the 2 screws taken out in the battery compartment before you pry). Then take your time seeing how to take the circuit board out, remembering where small parts are in case some fall out, like the contacts for the battery which are held in by the 2 screws. In my model, there was one additional screw holding in the circuit card itself. Also be careful not to rip any wires from the circuit board when you separate it from the body of the phone. Then a q-tip with alcohol, then a dry q-tip over the area where the contacts are, and it's good as new!!

I disagree - it may well be worth fixing. A button that you have to press very hard usually means that the pad underneath is quite dirty. Carefully take the phone apart (watch that the buttons don't fall out and make a confusing mess) and clean the sensor panel underneath with nail polish remover (acetone) or rubbing alchohol. I've fixed phones like that before.

Its not worth repairing the button however here is a workaround. Set it up to auto-answer when you take it from the cradle then it will go automatically go back on the hook when you return it to the cradle.
