how can i fix my auto gearbox in my 1993 isuzu big horn 3050 cc derv?

my gear bog keeps changing up and down its gears on hills some times its like it go's down two gears into second at 60mph? that makes the moter rev at 3500 rpm, iv tryed takeing it out of overdrive that did nothing, it still droped down into second, this only happens if im giveing it some welly(over half throtel) and only on hills, is this the way they are ment to work or is it a fult in the box?? i still get around 19 mpg, a uk gallon that is! some times i wished id stuck to a stick shift! as the auto big horn is a real dog to get moveing, any idears?
on this one, is it just how they are or is it busted??? coz if its busted, so will i be trying to get it fixed! ££££££££££ OUCH!

Auto gearbox,s are designed to change down when you push the throttle over half way its known as kick down which will change it down 2 gears.
It should how ever be controlled by a adjustable cable or lever from the gearbox th the engine throttle cam.You could try adjusting this but be carefull if you let it off too much you could destroy the gearbox all together.Hope this helps in some way.

well the jcb sounds like fun? but i think il give that one a miss for now, the auto gear box has just had a full service and i was told by the spoty yts lad that it drives fine? (how i wonder would he know? he only had a push bike, and that never had any brakes fitted to it!) so im back to were i started other than using a jcb! so come on is it likely to be fulty or do thay brive like this to save putting to much strain on the moter? mind you droping down into second at 60mph realy makes the moter rev its nuts off, so how it this saving the moter from working hard, well like i sead the big horn is a real dog!

You need a special tool to fix this, it's called a JCB. You dig a big hole with it, then stick the car in it.

That's probably not very helpful. Autoboxes can malfunction if the fluid level is wrong, or dirty. A fluid change (and filter if it has one) would at least rule this out.
