Glow Worm Swift Flow 75 Noisey Fan?

The Fan in my Glow Worm Swift Flow 75 was jammed up. I called a plumber out and he cleaned it up with fairy liquid and it got it free.

However it is very noisey all of the time, and are now 'squealin'. The bearings are obvioulsy worn!

Can I replace the fan assembly myself? I watched the plumber take it outand it looked pretty straightforward. He removed the outer casing, and another internal cover. Then he released the fan assembly. I certanly think i could do this myself...???

I don't really want to spend any more than i need to as I intend to replace the boiler soon. Combi or hot water tank? Which is better if i am not concerned about space?

Compact 75P the fan has gone but not sure whether to replace it and spend any further money on it or to get a new one, but too costly with xmas and all of that. No hot water and no heating can you recommend a cheap fan?? Cheapest quoted for new £150.00 + Vat and £100.00 to fit otherwise do you know a cheap boiler with the same dimensions or how easy is it to fit it yourself??

Before replacing, consider this!

Get a SPRAY can of "White Lithium Grease" and (with the power off) thoroughly spray into the motors moving parts (using the little red tube on the can or it will be messy). Spin the motor manualy to make sure it is freed and lubricated before turning the power back on.

This worked for me and now the unit (Glow Worm FF 70) runs quieter than it has in years. Also, there is no need to remove the motor to do this. The grease is only about £5 from B&Q so it is well worth trying, even if it only works long enough to provide temporary heat while waiting for a replacement (which might not be needed yet).

We have several Glow worm ff boilers in the family, and everyone has failed due to fan bearing seizure. Not wishing to scrap good working boilers because Glow worm decided to make the fans obsolete, I machine the top bearing casing and fit a ball race which gives the boiler another 15 years life.

When you get the fan, rather messing around changing the whole thing including the casing, take the motor and fan out of its casing and swap for the new one, no need to change the casing, and no need to dismantle the boiler.

Recon fans are around £50 from places like CET ltd and its a 5 min job to change, and unfortunately many engineers use this job as a licence to print money

I changed the fan on a swiftflow 75.

10 minute job, just make sure you turn everything off.

Cheapest place to buy was www.keeptheheaton.co.uk

its illegal for you or your plumber to do the fan unless your corgi, because its in the flue chamber,
which comes under the gas regulations.
