the main part of the engine management system is a computer which controls your engine. it takes information from various sensors around the engine and acts on the information received accordingly. if the display states there is a fault, your car will need to go on a diagnostic machine at a garage which will retrieve any faults stored in the computer. this points you in the general direction of which part of system is faulty.
