Model Panasonic TXL42B6B
My mother has had a similar problem with her TV the picture would not appear; the green light followed by flashing red light; sound working OK. Her TV was less than 2 years old so the screen was obviously a faulty one (unless it is normal for Panasonic TVs to fail in this timescale).
The local Panasonic repair agent took the TV away for inspection for which a fee of £24 was paid. After 5 days as we heard nothing we contacted the agent who (quite ridiculously) quoted £420 to obtain and fit a new screen. The TV was only £360 new so why he didn't just say it was a write-off heaven only knows.
The agent offered to have a word with Panasonic to see if a discount could be offered (on £420!!) but I chose to retrieve the TV myself and take the matter up directly with Panasonic given the short life of the TV to see if they were prepared to repair it free of charge. Don`t think the agent was happy with this (can`t think why). Panasonic told me that sometimes replacement parts can cost more than the complete TV!! but suggested I contact the agent again who would discuss it with them to see if any "Cost Assistance" can be allowed. The agent told me that he would discuss it with Panasonic but I would have to pay another £24 inspection fee (as the diagnosis would be unlikely to change assume this was a "that`ll teach you" charge).
So my mother would have to increase her expenditure to £48 just to find out if Panasonic would agree to bear some or all of the cost of having the TV repaired!
Laughable.
All I needed from Panasonic was a "yes" or "no" having to incur more expense on a "maybe" didn`t appeal.
In the end my mother bought a 43" LG TV for £299 and the Panasonic has made it`s final journey to the local skips.
