How can I fix my amp??

Hi. I have a mid 70s Vox Escort Bass50 amp. The problem is when I turn the volume up more than about 30% I get terrible distortion and a punchy sound when I hit the strings on my bass. I changed the output trannys which helped a little but the distortion is still there. I also checked the circuit board and re-soldered some bits and pieces but that made no difference. Vox UK haven't a clue. They told me they took over the Vox empire mid 90s and know nothing about the old amps. Waste of time that was!!. Anyway, is there anyone out there that can help me please. Thank you.

Hi Richard. Thanks for the reply. I have a schematic for the amp if that helps. Its readily available on the net. Thats where I got it. Anyway I look forward to seeing what you come up with. Again...Thank you for your help.

seems the feedback resister that determines the gain of an amplifier has gone low,ie creating to much gain it is basically being nearly,if not overdriven,a factor of 30 times is good for a nice sound, usually twin channel amps have another circuit with an output chip which have low to no feedback resister between the input and output pins on the chip,as i havent looked at this type of amp i can,t say for sure i,ll try and find a drawing for the board to find out.,it may have mosfet,or darlingtons,or fets, etc being seventies amp,i prefer mosfet, darlingtons, anyway, seventies stuff is good.
