I cant praise Glen at www.agsrefrigeration.co.uk enough. the freezer side of my rs21 went warm, this is very unusual, but after several phone calls from glen we tracked it down to the freezer fan which had packed up. he even called me back (twice) on a Sunday. I wanted to buy the parts from him as a thank you, but he just recommended a couple of sites to go to. If you are near him he is a must to use, if not he is very happy to help. top bloke.

I have a similar problem to this with my Samsung sr-l709evss fridge freezer,it cools/freezes down normally to the set temps but then warming up after that , numbers on the door flashing or saying that internal temps were cooler than they were, turning it off and on corrected the problem but this only restarted the cycle. Please can someone advise me how they solved there problem? Ive been told to replace the pc board. Wish we had agsrefridgeration in south africa

Hi, I have a samsung RSA1DHMH fridge freezer, last month we had a rattle coming from the frezer side, but soon went away and both fridge an freezer where still working,
Now the freezer is not freezing the food but he display is still showing -20.
Does anyone know what could be wrong before I call an engineer out to tell its not worth getting repaired(cheaper to replace)

Probably better in the long run to get someone who knows what they are doing out to look at it than someone guessing over the phone what the cause could be for this is what happened to my friend when he ordered a part which was'nt needed he also damaged the fridge beyond repair by ripping the pipework letting all the gas out when he spoke to samsung they said their have been many cases of this happening.

Thought I would add my experience, I had a similar problem to this with my Samsung fridge freezer, cooling but then warming up after 12hrs , numbers on the door flashing or saying that internal temps were cooler than they were, turning it off and on corrected the problem but this only restarted the cycle.
After calling 7 engineers I finally found one who would come out and have a look, he advised me that because the fridge is 10 years old , that I would have to bite the bullet and replace it, advise which he releaved me of £25 for.
Normally I would have taken that advise but these fridges are the best part of £1000 and although the unit was clearly faulty, it was still able to cool down so logic suggests there cant be that much wrong with it.
So I google my problem, I find that lots of people are having trouble with this and the models that followed it.After a couple of hours reading, watching youtube clips and phone calls, I find my way to this thread, seems to be similar symptoms to my fridge so I gave Ally a call, the guy clearly knows what he is talking about, Im advised to spend £60 on a kit to rectify my fault.

Well long story short , with the help of the online videos I was able to fit the kit (Im no handy man, usually I shy away from this sort of thing but it seemed pretty straight forward so I went for it) The whole operation took about an hour. That was yesterday and my fridge is working perfectly.
If you are having issues with your fridge I would fully recommend giving Ally a call and having ago yourself.

Hey the same thing happened to me and was told so many things by different people including samsung who didnt want to know because the bl.... thing is more than five years old however they also warned me that there have been many cases of people who when attempting repairs have damaged their appliances beyond repair by rupturing the internal pipework in the end they put us on to www.agsrefrigeration.co.uk they came out and found fault which was some sort of fault code which they put right.

hi check the display it may look of but there may be a little green segment flashing so check carefully and take note if any green led flashing .. if there is 1 flashing this makes up the digital 8 so also take note of what part of the 8 it is ie top line or bottom right etc

the segment is a fault code ..

you can also check if there is any faults stored on the rs21 models by simply pressing the top left and top right buttons together for 10 sceonds

when you do this the display with bleep and go blank - if there's any errors the segments will flash ...

no flashing segments normally means no faults stored but this doesn't necessary mean you dont have a fault - especially the issue with high temp and noise in the fridge .

the test function lasts for about 5 minutes so if you wait the display screen will revert back to normal -or you can switch the appliance of for 1 minute and switch back on

this guy ally is great for info , im in the trade and call him all the time for advice and spares - he will only sell you what you need and gives great accurate advice

so if you have a samsung fault american fridge freezer problem give ally a call

I pushed my ice collecting box back into my samson fridge freezer last night (too forcefully i was told by my husband) anyway at first I thought i had broken the light as it went dark inside. I tried to locate the bulb thinking i had dislodged it, but after giving up and closing the door, i noted that the display was off. Checked the plug and the fuse doesnt appear to be any problems. Cannot re connect to power, any ideas what may have caused this to happen? Appliance is just over 5 years old.

Hi guys thanks for your posts our samsung fridge which is about eight years or so old and samsung dont want to know and so many companies trying to rip us off selling multiple parts which you probably dont need in the end we took your advise and phoned www.agsrefrigeration.co.uk we also found they came highly recommended in which local in the croydon area they came out and found and rectified fault which was only one part not all the various parts quoated in the past. You were right these guys are great and straight to the point.

just to say a big thanks as we had to call ally a couple of times just to make sure we were doing repair correct
,
as a previous poster had said the problem doesnt really lie with the fan - the fan is only part of the problem ,

ally explained in detail to me regards what parts are required , yes you do need to fit the big white panel and there is a new fan with it - this is because the big white panel has been upgraded and new fan also comes with panel ,

you also need to fit a new defrost heater and couple of sensors - all these parts are situated behind the big white panel in the lower section of the fridge ..

so yes best advice dont buy a fan on its own , you are far better to get good advice and purchase spares from someone who knows about these appliances ..

Chers for the info Mike and Lorna you were right these guys at agsrefrigeration.co.uk. definately know there stuff we spoke to a gentleman over they phone and reassured us and told us exactly what the problem was and the likely cause they came out the same day and got our fridge up and running. It shows its better to have someone come out and diagnose the fault there and then rather than guessing over phone what the likely cause could be or buying various parts which are not needed saving us a lot of time and expence. Once again chers nothing like a good honest straight to the point old fashion engineer.

Thankyou for the post mike our samsung rs21dcns has been nothing but trouble over the years but we took your advise and gave Agsrefrigeration a call and we were very impressed with the service offered they arrived the same day and found the cause of our persisting problems over the years saving us the cost of buying numerous parts over the net which are not needed and for the first time in a long time we now feel confident in our appliance.

We have spoken to quite a few different engineers who all said the same thing that we had to replace the complete fan system or the defrost mechanism. After reading Niko blog we decided to give AGSREFRIGERATION a call the engineer was only with us a few minutes before he found the fault and explained to us that there was no need to replace all the other parts it was the Drain Heater which was faulty saving us the cost of buying something which he says in a lot of case is not needed because by replacing these parts the problem only comes back in a few months and that is why so many people have been having problems over the years however he said he doesnt mind because it keeps him busy and that he sometimes gets up to eight calls a day directly from samsung as an approved engineer. We were very pleased with the service offered saving us a lot of money on buying parts which werent needed and would have no hesitation recommending this company to anyone who in need of a honest no frills engineer.WWW.AGSREFRIGERATION.CO.UK.

had the same problem a well known company came and looked at it said we had to contact samsung who didnt want to know as appliance was five years old and out of warranty but lucky for me i found out my neighbour had the same problem and he gave me the engineer number he came promptly and rectify the problem which wasnt the fan has everyone keeps saying no probs since. Thanks to Pat's Jan 2012 post below - we followed the instructions as Pat said & we got our Samsung American fridge-freezer repaired free of charge (they covered parts & labour) even though our warranty had expired because its a known issue they granted us an exceptional warranty on it! Now fridge is happy again!

My advice is ring Samsung first. We have a 2008 Samsung Fridge freezer RSH1. The fan started hitting ice then iced up completely and the fridge stopped cooling. We called Samsung on freephone 08009880123, they were very helpful and even though it is out of the 2 year guarantee and even though we have it second hand and no proof of purchase, they tracked it by the serial number and offered a Free of Charge repair. This was saturday and the engineer came first thing Monday and replaced the parts and it really was FOC. Result! Well done Samsung and well done Watchdog. (Downside is the fault will re-occur...so Samsung you need to design better!)

we ordered part from appliance diy for 150 quid, pricey but worked......detailed instructions and in plain english! our fridge was very icy so took a long time to get rid of all ice with hair dryer. once the ice had gone we were able to continue to repair! we checked out the you tube link which shows the guy doing what we did but with out replacing parts which worked but eventually will just freeze up again! tip for every one is that when we had repaired fridge and turned back on the temp actually went up by a few degrees which worried me to the fact that i could have spent £150 and it wasnt going to correct it.........but we left it for a few hours by which time the temp had gone to were it should have been! hurray!

I have had the same issue as every single person on here so obviously there is a design fault, i will contact Samsung and check so see what they are willing to do, BUT in the mean time, do what i did and watch this video link on youTube, this guys a legend, worked out the issue, how to fix it and then spent 5 minutes videoing what you need to do to fix it, i followed what he said and now my fridge is working a treat!!!! for free

I'm fuming. I've just been duped by one of those £99.00 call out, labour and parts charge things to have my Samsung fridge fixed - or not fixed as the case was!

The guy comes out, looks at it, takes a few things apart, and says its knackered!

He spent 40 minutes in my house. 10 minutes was spent looking at the fridge, and the other 30 minutes explaining how he can give me a big discount off a brand new Samsung fridge freezer, meaning I now have to pay even more that I planned to in the first place! Great!

I emailed Appliance DIY Repairs, who didn't seem surprised at what I was telling them, so they've obviously heard these things before... They asked me what the fault was on my fridge freezer and I told them. They supplied all the parts, and I fixed it myself. It's been working fine ever since!

It seems odd that my fridge is no longer knackered, and yet I'm not entitled to a refund on my pre-booked call out and labour charge, even though the engineers quote of it being unrepairable and basically 'knackered' was incorrect!

Thinking about it now, if the full repair kit with all the correct parts from Appliance DIY Repairs has cost more than one companies fee to supply all the parts and included a call out and labour charge, and they were still supposed to make a profit, it's no wonder the engineer didn't fit anything and instead tell me it was knackered!

I've finally realised if something sounds too good to be true, it most probably is!

We bought a repair kit from Appliance DIY Repairs which solved the problem for us. We had a similar problem last year, and at the time bought one of the cheaper kits available elsewhere, and within a few weeks, the problem had returned again. The kit from Appliance DIY Repairs has everything you need to do the complete repair, and ours has now been great ever since. Both times the fault was the same. Noisy fan which stops when you open the door, no water through the dispenser, warm fridge, but it is now running better than ever.

I had the same problem with my Samsung F/F as everyone has outlined here. Reading through the replies I decided to have a go at fixing the problem as.

Symptoms:

Water stops, fridge temperature rises although the bottom of the fridge is still cold. Lights and freezer still work and no fuses are blown.

Problem

As described the drain for cooling the fan had become blocked and ice had formed blocking the fan housing and stopping the fan and cool air circulating through the fridge. Increased ice build up had frozen the pipes supplying water to the tap and the system had effectivly frozen up.

Repair

There are two screws holding the water cooler to the main back pannel. Remove those, pop out the two clips in pannel and remove the screws behind them.

Remove the screw at the top of the light fitting and unclip the light cover. Remove the remainder of the screws in the light fitting so that you can remove the bottom pannel. Sliding down and unclipping the light fitting.

Remove the screws for the fan housing and take out the fan. Heat with a hairdryer until all the ice around the fan has melted and the air can flow back through the system.

Screw everything back together switch off and back on again at the mains. Don't forget to monitor for futher ice build up. Job done.

Our fridge/freezer is 6 months out of warranty. We didn't think we needed an extended warranty.
The freezer is working fine, but the fridge made a terrible sound just prior to the temperature showing 15 degrees. We turned it off and back on as per the manual, but it only went as low as 12 degrees.
This seems to be a common problem after a few years, they should be recalling them. Im sure I'm not the only unhappy samsung owner who will call them tomorrow.

Just go to www.appliancediyrepairs.co.uk. I bought a repair kit from them a few weeks ago after a recomendation from a work colleague. It worked for me. In fact it couldn't have been much easier. I've seen primary school books more complicated to understand than the instructions in this kit as well. I had a quote which was way over double the cost of the repair kit to fix my fridge from Samsung, so I thought I'd have a go at doing it myself. I quite enjoyed it actually!

Thanks to everyone who gave the step by step answers on how to do a quick fix on the very loud (thought my kitchen had been moved next to an airfield) Samsung fridge freezer which had iced up..I did it... peace at last, well till it frosts up again. My next step is to phone Samsung as mine is less than 5yrs old and request the FOC repair, as per Watchdog. But thanks again to How to Mend it bloggers.

I had the same problems on my Samsung side by side american style fridge freezer. No water coming through, noisy fan, warm inside. The engineer couldn't fix it, he told me to defrost it. I did, but didn't realise it needed to be defrosted every two weeks! I phoned him back and he said that defrosting it will only help temporarily, and that it needs fixing! He told me to buy a Repair Kit from APPLIANCE DIY REPAIRS, as they sell all the proper latest genuine Samsung parts. I did that, and my fridge has been working brilliantly now for months - and the kit was reasonably priced too.

I have an RL41 only one year old and I have recently had the same problem. The engineer won't come to fix it on a weekend and I work weekdays. I had the same problem which i fixed over the weekend. The problem was that the circulating fan in the fridge had stopped as a result of icing up. The fix is to remove the ice. I did it by removing the inturnal fan assembly which is located in the bottom of the fridge compartment at back secured by 4 screws. This compartment was frozen up and had to be released by blowing hot air via a fan heater. When fan housing is removed (unplug two electric connectors) The ice will be evident. I then applied hot air to the exposed opening and the fan housing. Took about 2 hours to remove all ice. I the reinstalled and everything worked perfectly.

You will probably be able to free the internal fan without stripping the housing by applying a fan heater to the bottom back area (fan housing) of the fridge compartment but this will take longer say 8hours.

Hi we have exact same problem with freezer working and fridge temp 12 deg and very loud noise which when we turned off stopped but fridge still 12 deg called samsung but they haven't heard about design fault or extended warranty.we are in Australia ?????? I have a samsung RSA1DHMH side by side FF, the freezer light was flashing, i let it defrost for a few hours, turned it back on, now the display comes on and then goes off completely after about 20 seconds. If this a side by side and there is nothing wrong with the evaporator unit, change the mainboard. The heater relay could be blown causing fridge side to ice up not allowing air flow through evaporator. Remove panel and investigate if it does'nt void warranty.

oh my, i have been having these problems for last few weeks. freezer is fine, fridge is not. its at 12 degrees and decides to start buzzing at midnight so have had to turn it off. an engineer did come out last week. he was there for 5 minutes and said he couldnt fix it and would send someone else and i am still waiting. will be chasing this up tomorrow. for now though i have to try and fit all my frozen food in the other small freezer we have. what a nightmare!!

Hi All, I have exactly the same problem, had the fridge freezer (American Style) for 2 years the freezer is working fine but the fridge will not go below 12c. Sounded like an aircraft taking off for about a week (the fan was struggling to motor due to the frigde freezing up). When the engineer came out to fix the electrical recall he said it would be best to defrost the the unit to allow the frozen parts to defrost. I did this but still the fridge would not to below 12c. After reading all of your comments I called Samsung mentioned the Watchdog programme and the apparent extended warrenty to 5years and they have organised for an engineer to come out and fix the problem next week free of charge... so fingers crossed and thanks for all the advice on this page.

6 years old, out of warranty...
Have Same prob., fridge fan ices up. Won't hold temp. It happens because the condenser (below the fan) has an internal heater that is sealed in the condenser. The heater goes bad, so the condenser and fan ice up. Samsung fixed this in later models by putting the heater on the outside of the condenser. My repair guy buys the new model condenser and takes the heater off to use on the old style condenser.
either way it's expensive to repair.
You can unplug fridge overnight to defrost and it will last maybe a week but it will keep happening.

I have the same problem with my rs21 ff. Basicly ice forms around the fan housing after a number of months with temp set at below 5C on the fridge side. A defrost fixes it for 6 months if you raise the temp to 5C. Not good for cold meats etc. I have just had a visit from a Samsung engineer who fitted a fuse unit as a result of a recall notice. I was under the impression this would fix the defrost fault but was told no this just stop it catching fire if a different fault develops. This made me search for info on the defrost issue and I find it,s a design fault where an additional heater is required arround the fan housing. After 5years your on your own but the modified part can be purchased for £60 and is replacement for the lower panel inside the fridge at the rear. Small price to pay for a very expensive ff.

They gave me an engineer number in my area. His charge is £79 call out, then plus parts and labour. No other engineer can do as they have to be able to order parts from Samsung and they will only supply parts to their allocated engineer!!!! I feel my rights are being abused as I have no choice or alternative but to pay £79 call out which I think is extortionate!! I want to escalate this to higher authorities. I am trapped by Samsung and they are not prepared to do anything.

I have had my Samsung fridge freezer SR L628EV for about 6years and have had no problems untill recently. The temperture is warming in fridge then it will get cold, the fan is not turning, also it is leaking from time to time. The freezer is working fine and have no problems with it. Could anyone advise me as I have been told it could be the fan but do not want to get this repaired and it turn out to be something else. thanks.

As already noted, RS21* models have had their warranty extended to 5 years, so they'll send an engineer to fix it. As a temporary fix, first I switched off the unit at the socket and kept the freezer shut. Then I removed the entire contents of the fridge, and all the removable fittings, and then warmed up the area where the noise is coming from with a hair dryer. This melted the ice build-up and should last at least 4 weeks. (When I reassembled it of course I cleaned all the shelves to keep the other half happy).

Our FF seems to have the same problem as everyone else. We have battled with it for nearly a year but didnt realise Samsung had admitted a problem. I only found this forum this morning and have called Samsung straight away. Yes a 5 year warrenty is offered readily for this problem but i have missed that window by about 4 weeks and Samsung wont do a thing. Very unimpressed by their "customer service" and will avoid Samsung in the future.

Thanks for the advice Bob C - didn't see the Watchdog programme but rang the 0800 number and got straight through. Warranty was offered, and engineer booked for 2 day's time. It would seem the problem is caused by the fan catching on a frosted up element which initially causes the noise, and eventually the ice stops the fan working and consequently the fridge starts to warm up. Defrosting will work but won't stop the problem recurring.

By the way "an tran in Australia", the filters don't last long at all, but unless your drinking water isn't great, we've found you don't really need them anyway!

We have had ours for 18 months, it has always made the buzzing noise pretty much from the word go! But now the fridge is cold at the bottom and warm at the top! Fridge temp indicator flashes when the door is open, but remains at 2C even though, it's much warmer than that!
We will try turning it off for 48 hours as suggested, but my husband would like to take the action you suggested...is it located at the back or front? So we may solve the problem completely.

Auto defrost hole in fridge is too small and freezes up, causes fan to jam, remove panel to access, cut larger and smear with grease or petroleum gelly to prevent further ice build up.

Its fine if you have problems before the 5 years are up but if you go over Samsung do not want to know. We have the RS21 and it has started playing up and I found out about the watchdog programme so contacted Samsung expecting them to fix it.

I have loads of Samsung products but they did not want to know, so much for commitment to quality & customer service. I know its over 5 years old but it still had the problem when I bought it so I do not see how they can claim commitment. If you have a problem get in touch straight away.

I think its buyer beware with Samsung as the next product you buy might not end up on watchdog.

We've had the same problem. Our FF is about 4 years old and about 4 weeks ago the fridge temperature indicator started to flash. The temperature control was lost and food wasted. The fridge engineer mentioned the Watchdog programme and defrosted the freezer section (cost us £60!) and everything was ok - for 10 days. Since then the problem has occured twice. It can't be right that the only cure is to defrost the freezer when it happens. Although out of warranty we shall see if Samsung will repair the programme in view of the Watchdog problem. Watch this space!

Well it sounds like I may have been luckier than some. I've had my Samsung F/F for just over 4 years and not had any problems until now. Freezer is fine, but the fridge was making some dreadful noises for about a week and then the temp. indicator started flashing. I am in the process of defrosting it (thank heavens I recently purchased another freezer for the garage!). I can't find my original receipt, but am hoping in the event that it isn't cured when I switch it back on Currys will help me pursue the extended 5 year Samsung warranty that another post has mentioned. Will let you know if I have any further problems and any warranty solutions.

not sure if you have seen watchdog. this is a known problem and the fridge has been deemed unfit for purpose due to this design fault. Samsung have now given all owners an extended 5 year warranty and will replace any parts free of charge.

I have had the same, noisy fan, and luckily, took out an insurance policy with Comet. They came out and changed the fan. The guy said it is a known problem that the fan unit freezes up so makes the fan noisy and therefore doesn't work properly.

A week later I noticed that the fridge wasn't cold enough so called an engineer again. This time he replaced the thermostat. Now I have a cold, quiet fridge.

I have had a similar problem occurring 3 times over 4 years.
On each occasion as advised by a samsung engineer I turned off the fridge freezer for 48 hours, no less as the freezer will not defrost properly. And on every occassion the problem was solved.
