Potterton Profile 50e - keeps resetting?

My profile 50e resets itself at least once/twice a day which means I can't rely on it to heat water first thing in the morning or turn the heating on when I return from work. The motorised valve is a year old, the pump is new, the overheat thermostat has been replaced - nothing to seems to resolve this frustrating intermittent fault. The bolier is about 9 years old but works perfectly well when it stays on. The flue isn't blocked and the boiler has recently been serviced as well. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

My experience is that Profile is prone to cut-out when thermostat set to Max. Turn it down a little and problem may go away - certainly does for me. Have noticed that it has a tendency to creep back up to Max over time.

As engineers have noted, it may not be the only cause, but an easy one to check.

i have had the same fault today, new pump, house comes up to temperature ok but high limit stat cuts in.
Once i reset it the boiler fires up straight away.I couldnt do anything today because the merchants were closed for stock take.when i go back tomorrow i can only assume its either a faulty over heat stat or a control stat without further checks.the boiler im dealing with is gravity hot water and pumped central heating so i dont think its a circulation problem.

Who says the main thermostat is a common fault !? This sort of self diagnosis is dangerous, call an expert !

I've had the same problem for months and rplaced ALMOST everything. It'll be the circuit board I think - easy to go wrong as the solders are often unstable/temperamental, especially on a boiler that has been mended or moved. It's easy to change yourself and costs about £100. Hope this helps.

you can test the stat by checking the flow pipe temp this should be a max of 82 deg this is when the stat should shut down on max , the only other thing is to make sure that the pupm overun stat is operating

I was told that this one is working ok because it reacts when you change the temperature i.e it turns itself off if its warm and you move it down to a lower temperature and vicer-visa. Is there anyway of testing it other than this to prove that its faulty? Cheers D.

the main thermostat is the one with the knob on on the boiler with 2 white wired connections and the copper phial , it is a common fault

Which is the main thermostat? I've changed the overheat thermostat - not the Gravity DHW/Pump overheat thermostat or the Control Thermostat. According to the fault finding guide it said to change the overheat thermostat. Which one would you suggest?

has the main thermostat been replaced as these are a common fault on the profile??
