take it apart like described on another post -get a 1/4 nut driver or socket & uscrew the little nut where the steam comes out.behind the nut will be a little washer & a silicon rubber seal .tap out the threaded shaft gently not to damage the threads. clean the shaft ,put a little grease or other lubricant on it & reassemble in reverse order.make sure to put the seal in first, then the washer ,then the nut.don't over tighten as you are pushing against rubber.worked for me.there is a spring on the other end of the shaft so you have to compress it when putting the nut back on.

Even after all this time JM's process does work. My husband sprayed a little rustbuster on the nub and it immediately became workable and I blew through the pinhole where the steam comes out and the air was released. Thanks......

The steamer trigger will not go off, and you have to plug it alot.

Mine was not steaming. I followed the above directions of cleaning first with vinegar and then I took it apart and tapped the gold bar inside and blew into the end while pressing the gold bar in untill air was released. It really was very easy to do. Next time it will be a piece of cake. Now it works great. Thank you.

JM your my hero!!! I almost went out to buy another steamer but googled it first to see if I could fix it :)

I didnt have a small hammer so I used the other end of a regular hammer and it worked just as well. It took a few minutes and alot of dust came out but it eventually moved

To clean the lime, Turn it off and let it cool. Open the top slowly. Empty water and fill up the measuring cup 1/3 way with white vinegar. Fill rest with water and add to unit. Put cap on and turn on. Once heated take to sink and slowly depress button until the unit clears the lime deposit and starts steaming again. Now your ready to go.

I've just tried to clean my Scunci Steamer using the directions provided. I've managed to take it apart and have tried to release the brass nub without any luck. Perhaps there is just too much build up. Does anyone have any suggestions for cleaning this part??

The user above is correct. And the steps to correct it: The thumb trigger and the sliding brass valve clog up and dont move. So if you use it and press the thumb trigger and no steam comes out, it's probably clogged.

Wait until it cools down. Empty the unit.

1.) unscrew any attachments and you will see where they screw in at the end, two small philips head screws on the end. remove them. The red rounded piece at the end will come off.
2.) now on the top, unscrew the water stopper top where you poor water in.
3.) Now below that is a round rubber piece that surrounds the threaded part where the stopper top screws on to. Grab it with your fingers and lift it up on the sides to remove it.
4.) now underneath here you can see two screws. Remove them.
5.) now grab the whole top piece that is "black" and pull upward to remove it. you may want to start at the front and work it off. It has a few snaps that will release when pulled. I have done this a few times so dont be afraid to pull this piece off.
6.) now you will see the valve assembly. Take a small hammer and tap on the small rounded "brass" nub that is sticking out of the "trigger side" of the valve. To know if it has released, I usually place my lips around the end that the steam comes out of and blow while pressing in on the little brass nub on the other side. I do this until that nub moves freely and I can hear the air escape out the top from my blowing on it. Sounds funny but it works. If not free, tap it harder, a few more times, until it is free. It will free up eventually. It gets stuck from time to time but this will get you back in business fairly quickly.
7.) move the nub a few times to ensure smooth movement.

Re-assembly

1.) The black plastic top will snap into place. Just line up the trigger spring with the red nub and snap the whole black piece back into place.
2.) place the two screws back in.
3.) The rubber protector ring is tricky. You will see the underside has a rubber edge that snaps in place. Work it around as best as possible and i usually use a screw driver to push the last little bit into place.
4.) place the red circular end cap on and the two screws that go with it.

you are all done. Once you do this a few times, you will become a pro OR as the above poster said, use distilled water.

How did you get the valve off to clean and repair it?

About the only way your gonna get a owners manual is to buy a new one and use the old one for parts. Ours didn't work so I took it ALL apart and cleaned it. The sliding brass valve that the thumb trigger pushes against to release the steam was clogged with lime and was stuck. Steam pressure keeps it closed, not a spring. It can be taken apart and it can be repaired or cleaned and it will work again once cleaned but the key I think is to use distilled water only so you won't get lime buildup on that valve. Another key is common sense.
