What is Mailer-daemon? Worm/virus or Trojan?

my outlook express is getting loads of mailer-daemon emails that i havent sent. i assume i have a virus/worm/trojan or something i shouldnt. I've got AVG and Panda software, which say they've removed a virus and spyware but still getting lots of these emails. Help appreciated thanks. I have a laptop running XP

It IS a virus. Because its coming to an e-mail address I only use for INCOMING mail, not outgoing. I haven't even used that e-mail address for anything for years and when I checked it recently for the stuff I still had it for, its getting flooded with the MAILER_DAEMON thing.

Now... EXCUSE ME all you people that keep saying the same nonsense of 'its just you sent it to such and such' but if I haven't SENT any mail FROM my e-mail HOW is it possible?

If you're not gonna be helpful about the virus and tell people HOW to remove it, then be on your way because you only are sounding like creeps. It does NOT fix the problem for ANY of us.

My problem is that I have been getting the same messages for over a week now. They have not stopped, and I do not have a spam/junk folder. I am using squirrel mail.

How can I get them to stop? I have just been deleting them, and I am NOT sending messages out. But they keep coming, and usually within an hour, I will have over 100 more. Delete, and then, 100 more.

HELP!!!

Thanks!

if you send wrong email add, that is when mailer-daemon replies. but some websites you have registered will use your email add to send ads to all your contact lists without your knowledge, and some of your contact lists are either incorrect or may no longer exist. that's why you receive mailer-daemon reply. i think you should ignore forwarded emails and stop forwarding useless messages/quotes/chain letters/etc. avoid clicking on that links because they will use your accounts for ads purposes. they might send embarrassing messages to your friends.

I have a friend that has been getting these for a few days now. She has received four of these messages on her spam. What should i do? Tell her to ignore them or run an anti-virus software on the PC?

I had that for 4 days. I had about 2000 of these emails!! THEN... I started getting emails from everyone on my mail list saying that they had received several emails from me with a link to various businesses (including a Canadian Pharmacy). I, of course, did not mail these. I ran my Norton full scan; but I still got these! They finally stopped coming after going through my entire mail list several times. It looks like I am clear now.

These Are not virus/Trojan or anything. This is simple the person you have sent the email too. Either has a Full inbox/ Mail server is down/Many other common problems.

These will come even after hours of emailing someone. So dont be alarmed. Just ignore them.

I received hundreds of these over a 3-day span recently. I simply ignored them and re-directed them to my spam box. After 3 days they stopped coming in completely. My advice - don't do anything - just ignore them and they will go away.

The same thing is happening to me except i have a MacBook and now for some reason i can not log into AOL and i even had my brother reset my aol password from a different computer, on which i can access my aol account. I don't know if their is a correlation between the two events but i have no ther explanation.

The simple rule is: if you don't know the sender, don't open the email, and delete.
