Hotpoint WD860 error code f05?

Hi

My Hotpoint WD860 has 'stuck' with the error code F05.

It still has some water in it but even after powering down all night I can't open the door to remove my clothes.

What does error code f05 mean? Any idea how to bypass it to open the door?

Thanks

John

Scroll to the bottom of the page for the answer, the newest reply's are at the top of the page! There is a white plastic screw in plug on the front of my machine on the right hand side behind the 10cm tall panel at the bottom of the machine, It was difficult to start unscrewing because it has never been off counter clockwise(lefty, loosey) but once off I removed the plastic chip fork and the colour catcher checked there was nothing else inside and screwed it back in clockwise(righty, tighty) job looks a goodun! Thank you again tinternet!!

Thank you so much for posting your advice. We followed it and found a hair grip, a 50p, a hair band, a collar stiffner and some material! Fingers crossed, it seems to be fixed!

If it helps at all I followed all the good advice without any luck. As a last resort I turned my Hotpoint on it's side and decided to check the rubber hose leading from the washing machine to the filter. Undid one jubilee clip and hey presto a sock stuck inside it. Removed it and all is well again. Good luck to all

I have the f05 error intermittently but if I hook the machine up to a garden hose it works fine what would the problem be, I'm worried if I buy a new machine I will have the same problem, the pipes are under concrete floor so can't get at them

On our HOTPOINT AQUARIUS WMPF762 the error code f05 came up with flashing lights. I followed the manual but no luck. As a last resort I checked the drain pipe to the u bend and found it was half blocked. Cleaned that out and hey presto! all fixed (fingers crossed).

I see so many of you fighting with towels to drain your machine via the filter cap.
The easy (and recommended way in the manual) is to take the drain hose (the one going from the back of the machine into your drain) and lower it into a bucket close to ground level.

I followed the instructions about removing the kick plate and undoing the filter (a lot of water came out) and it was a colour catcher sheet that had blocked my filter too!
Thanks for the advice.

Worked perfectly.

Tips....
1 Use an oven tray.
2 Bucket close to it.
3 Open valve a little bit only...just get a trickle.
4 Use a sponge to take water from the tray to the bucket.
5 Reckon on 2-3 bucket loads
6 Take your time (saves time later cleaning up).
7 You just saved ÂŁ150 'call out' - so now go to the pub.

Thanks all. Followed the instructions and it seems to have solved the issue. Two bits of advice:

1. Get lots of towels ready in preparation as there is a LOT of water.
2. Be ready to wipe everywhere down after as everywhere the water touches stinks

Thank you everyone - we got an f05 code on our WMD940 last night, and at a time when our family simply can't afford yet another bill. Found this site and after reading all the comments below decided to have a go myself. The filter itself was clear but I didn't have the strength to tip the machine to access the pump, so waited until DH was home tonight - opened the filter, tipped the machine... and out fell 5p! We put it all back together, ran a rinse cycle and all is working fine. SO glad we didn't call an engineer!

We have a Hotpoint WMEF762 just 2 months old showing the F5 error with a load of flashing lights.

Everything pointing to the pump. Removed the kick plate and unscrewed the filter/pump & drained the water into several shallow baking trays ( an extra few centimeters height would make a huge difference ).

Poking around found nothing but a torch revealed a piece of dark material.
It turned out to be one of those Dye Catcher sheets, very thin & flexible. From now on we will use them inside a delicates bag. At least make sure they are ejected with the washing!

The Dye Catcher sheets do not list this as a precaution & I am sure this is not the first occurrence.

Even though under warranty an engineer call out would have incurred a fee of over ÂŁ100.00 as it is not a manufacturing fault.

Our wml730 showed error code. I'm a dab hand with laptops, desktops, mobile phones etc but washers.....errr anyway I had a go and its now working great. Thanks again to all very simple solutions. Hotpoint WF740G - had the same F - 05 fault and followed the instructions below. Remove kick plate from bottom of the machine and unscrew filter at bottom right hand corner. BEWARE OF LOTS OF WATER! I found a patch of material, limescale, bricks, shirt collar ribs and clumps of hair that was blocking the filter. Cleared this out, reassembled and set washer to go. 3 full cycles in and working fine.....so far! Thanks to everyone for the advice. This is what the web is all about!

Just to add to this.

I had the same f-05 error code. Drained the machine bit by bit by loosening the filter cover (bottom right hand side of the front of the machine) and running the water into a baking tray. Took a while but saved having water all over the kitchen floor.

On removing the filter cover found no blockages and on removing the pump also found no blockages. Was just about to call a repair man when I thought I may as well check the outlet pipe at the U-bend of the sink. Didn't think there would be a problem as the sink was draining freely. On removing the pipe I found it to be full of white fat about four inches up the pipe. Apparently my wife drains the 'juice' from the mince into the sink and runs hot water down after it.

Since this is the easiest thing to check, my suggestion would be to check if first, rather than last, like I did. It would have saved me all that hassle with the baking tray!

In future the 'juice' will be drained into an old bean tin and thrown out with the rubbish...

All great advice that works! Just to be clear, in some models you can access the blockage from the front right of the machine as you face the drum. Unplug from the main, take the bottom panel off. You will probably have to drain the machine - a couple of basins, a plastic jug and a sponge did the trick. Then turn the obvious handle anti-clockwise (no screws or allen keys on my model), pull out and then you'll see any blockages. No money for me, just two spare buttons that could have cost an expensive call-out and repair. Thanks to all!

instructions worked a charm. removed stick, screw and sock which was casing the problem! Getting the pump out was the hardest bit, but once I worked out I needed to lever up the plastic tongue holding the pump (on the bottom left of the plastic pump housing inside the machine) before sliding the pump to the left it all went fine.

I have just removed several items from the drain pump (two pencil tops (with erasers attached), three small stones, some paper, a metal link and nine 1p coins). I'm now attempting the first load. Thanks for the advice.
Just to clarify for those who are still confused. First disconnect your machine from the mains power supply. Remove panel at rear/bottom of the machine (cross head screwdriver required). This reveals drain pump (back right corner, as you face rear of machine). To release/remove pump, slide assembly to left and lift (requires a little effort). As mentioned, there will be a fair amount of water in the pump/pipes, so ensure a bowl and absorbent cloths are to hand.
Unscrew two Jubilee clips and three further screws (requiring Allen key).
Clear debris, flush pipes and reassemble.

I followed all of the excellent tips and felt very confident the machine would then work perfectly but when I tested the machine the error code returned. Having done a little more research on the internet it appears it could be one of 2 things, either the Pump has gone or the pressure switch is jammed on full, at this point do I purchase the parts and try again or call an expert

Marvellous, just followed all your tips, yes i am a woman! I had some metal bits stuck in the pump where what looks like a fan would normally turn. Hope ive fixed it just testing it now, fingers crossed and thanks for all the advise x

Many thanks for the info given here. It has saved me calling an engineer out. Ours broke a couple of days before Xmas. Due to a broken ankle I've only been able to repair it yesterday.

I found a large matted lump of hair in the pump. The washing machine is 3 years old and it was obviously an accumulation. I followed the instructions on here and was able to fix myself. The only info I can add is that the 3 screws on the pump require a Torx T15 screwdriver or allen key.

Make sure you drain the machine first. Do this by getting a large washing up bowl and take the hose. bang the end of the hose againse the bottom of the bowl to create a vaccume and then lay the hose down as flat as possible. There is quite a lot of water in the machine!

Had F05 on my WT741 Machine. I just had to drain the water off through the drain hole at the bottom right and then found underwiring from a bra (Not mine I hasten to add !) Removed it screwed the drain plug back in HEY PRESTO.

Just a further note to the answers below.. i had the same error code, mine was a blockage in the outlet pipe/junction from the drum to a large black rubber pipe that feeds into the pump. Turned out to be my sons gym membership card.

We have just followed this set of instructions ourselves and solved the problem in 10mins! Note! Definately get a container beforehand such as a washing up bowl and you may have to tilt the machine forward to access the tabs underneath. Apart from that its pretty simple and has saved us some cash which is ecspecially needed with a baby on the way!
Thanks Guys!

I have had this problem twice now first time i called out someone to fix it and it turned out that the pipe was bloked. With waste from the sink outlet (fat from cooking) All i did the second time was put hot water down the pipe until this cleared the pipe and all was ok. i never put fat down the sink again. never had the problem again.

Hi

Thank you all so much. I am a 41 year old woman and following the instructions below have just repaired my washing machine.

***For anybody trying this at home!!*** I did have a bowl and container to hand to collect the water, however, it pours out (common sense should have told me this!!)

Lisa

Thanks to everyone here I think I've just managed to fix the issue with our machine. For anyone who has a problem lifting out the pump I found there was a small tab on the lower left which means that if you attempt to tlit it slightly right as you lift it you should find it it easier to remove. As posted earlier once you've lifted it up enough to get that tab out of the hole you should then be able to slide the pump left until the fixings in the base are in position to let them lift up.

I'd also suggest having a container or something similar handy to catch any water that may come out when you unscrew the pump.

I've just done this the pump is on the right side of the machine and is a little tricky to remove one you get the knack it is ok. The back of the pump unscrews with a small allen key there are 3 screws once opened you can easily remove the blockage. took about 40 mins but second time would be much quicker. Result !!!!!

Hi John,

This is a drain problem. Most likely something caught in the pump which is accessed by removing the small panel at the rear/bottom of the machine. The pump slots in place and can be removed by lifting and shifting to the left. Unscrew the pump off or remove the pipes will reveal all. If you need new pump, which I doubt you can get one from us here:
