repairing the chime on Daniel Dakota mantle clock?

I have a battery powered daniel dakota mantle clock that keeps correct time, but for some reason the chime just quit workingone day. Ive tried changing batteries, resetting etc. but still no chime.(it did work fine for a couple years) While i can find loads of info on fixing the timing part, as well as wiring schematics and diagrams for the timing I can find no info on how to fix the chime. I have noticed that used Daniel dakota clocks for sale all seem to have broken chimes. Im also wondering if this is common among this mfg?
