any one know what the cause of a leaking detergent tray ?

hotpoint aqualtis AQXXF 149 PI the machine washes ok but when water goes in to the detergent dispenser it leaks out running behind the door which makes it look like the door seal has gone.
new seal fitted waste of money
have checked filters all seem to be clear
design of the dispenser tray does not seem as though it is made to stop water coming out so i guess when the water is supposed to leave the dispenser for some reason it remains
and consequently allows the tray to leak, has anyone out the encountered this problem. would be grateful for an answer
