On my cooker hood (elica brand) the installer powered it from a 13 Amp socket low down on the back wall - the mains plug has a fuse in it - 3A I think. It would be too big a challenge for the user to dismantle the hood to locate a fuse when it's so easy to have an external one.
But I could be wrong...
