Is it possible to reprogram the Delonghi Esam 3500 S Control panel?

My machine now has a mind of its own and I think its the control panel that needs a reset? I have tried switching off at the mains then back on after 15 secs whilst holding the on button in combination with one of the other buttons. Tried this with each button in turn.
Each process seems to have a different effect on the operation but non seem to get the machine in sync.
The small battery on the board is showing power and the clock is still in sync despite power being off so its not the battery fault I believe
Any ideas greatly appreciated
