I have two main chandeliers in living room with 3 separate bulbs- one bulb blew and has blown my dimmer ( the other chandelier wont dim at all, the one with the bulb that blew wont switch on ). I bought new dimmer switch and replaced however this one won't work at all , however when I put on the old dimmer, the one chandelier comes back on again but wont dim. Is it as simple as replacing all the bulbs or do I need to call in electrician ?

Hi MM,
I put in new bulbs in all the lights and again tried the new dimmer switch however none of the lights came on. Attached the old dimmer and all the lights came on full ( not able to dim them ) i'm returning new dimmer switch and going somewhere else as that's 2 switches that don't work.
Heres hoping that's it !! thanks for your advise x

are they edison bulbs ?(screw in type)check the centre pin as they can go o/c if you screw bulb in to far,turn mains off before you check the centre pin connector,you may have to prise it up carefully with a small screwdriver

Hi MM,
There's only the one main switch in room. And I did exchange the new dimmer switch ( just in case the first one I bought was faulty ) again when I put the old dimmer switch on, one of the lights come on full . I will replace all bulbs in case its something as simple as this however i'm stuck if after changing all the bulbs

to prove it fit a plain switch to the lights,if they all work then you know its the dimmer, its a very easy fault to find for us,but if you dont have a test meter all you can do is trial and error,b very carefull ok /

in that case your new dimmer is faulty return it , is the lighting two way ?ie one switch on one wall,and one on opposit wall?

Hi MM,
Just standard small 40 watt bulbs, one of them blew the other night and normally when that happens, I just change them . never had issues with dimmer before

what type of bulbs are you using??hope its not energy saving type as these cant be dimmed and cause your dimmer to burn out
