Is there a way to find a short in a battery driven watch?

I have a small ladies watch that I purchased for my wife. I didn't pay much for it as it was at a GoodWill type of store. The watch was a Joan Rivers Classic watch w/a spiral wrist band, and very nice looking. I was was able to get the back off of the watch, I've noticed there are 2 v-shaped niches on the watches back. I assumed for keeping pressure off of the watch's stem. I changed the battery and the watch started working as normal. When I put the cover on the battery it stops working. Any suggestions on where to look to see what might be making the watch short out? The company that manufactured the watch will not work on them. I tried one jeweler and he had the same issue, and said to try and send it back to the manufacture obviously that won't work. Maybe it's time to throw it away, or is there a manufacture or Jewler that someone can recommend to fix the watch?

If there was a "short" as you say the battery would supply an almost infinite current and get very hot and become instantly flattened.

It is more probable - from what you say - that the problem is one of an open circuit - i.e. contact is being lost and current stops flowing - the heart stops beating.

There are not many specialist repairers of electric watches - here's a link to one in the UK

Good luck...
