sigma lens contacts?

i've had my sigma 18-250 lens for over a year conected to my canon 40d everything was fine untill now. it has thrown up an error on the screen of my camera " communations between the camera and lens is faulty clean the lens contacts" having cleaned the contacts a number of times i still have the same problem what now?
