how can I fix my humax pvr 9300 T ?

my digital tv recorder is freezing and jumping I have tried downloading New soft ware I have the most up to date and I have tried doing the turning off and on and manual searches and automatic searches when I look at the signal and quality strength then are fluctuating it didn't do this 6 weeks ago when first bought

A description of freezing and jumping on a 9300t or a 9150t is usually down to one of two issues. These issues are either having very old software or not be tuned correctly. Although you have considered both of these options you do not indicate that you have been informed of what is really involved in either checking that you have the latest software or being tuned to the channels OK.

The fix I am posting is long so that it can to include the most likely fixes and also to include some explanation.

HOW TO MEND IT version 1:
Make sure that you have a recent version of the software by looking at the version number displayed via the Humax TV menus.

The most recent software version of the 9150T is ‘HPTTF 1.00.26’.
The most recent software version of the 9300T is ‘UPTTF 1.00.26’.

Versions that end with a number of less than 18 are known to have freezing and jumping issues.
Details on the different methods that could be used to update the software can be found in the user guide.

Jane, you state that you “have tried downloading New soft ware I have the most up to date”. You do not state how you have attempted to download or why you think you have the latest software or what software you have. Because you do not give this information you give the impression that you have not checked your software version. You need to check whether you really have a recent version of the software and consult the user guide if you do not have a recent version. Attempting to download the latest version of the software when the software is not being broadcast will result in the message ‘No new software found’ being displayed. That message means that no new software is being broadcast right now. The message ‘No new software found’ does not mean that no new software is available from any source - it just means that it is not available right now through that menu option. The message ‘No new software found’ does not mean that your software is the latest. When that message is displayed you will still not know whether or not you have the latest software.

To look up which version of the software you are using it’s MENU > System > Status.

HOW TO MEND IT version 2:
Make sure that you are tuned to the best transmitter for you location and your aerial.

Although being tuned to a weak transmitter as well as an available stronger transmitter can cause unnecessary pixilation issues where the picture shows blocks instead of detail some people sometimes notice other issues such as freezing and jumping – especially when playing back recordings.

To resolve this possible cause a manual tune is needed. But this does not mean you just go into the manual tune menu and just select the option from the menu. How to use the manual tune option is not included in adequate detail in the user guide.

Jane, you do not state how you used the manual tune option. You do not state how you have attempted to manual tune. Because you do not give this information you give the impression that you have selected the manual tune option but not known how it should be used.

Because reception ability does vary with atmospheric conditions this can be the reason why your picture was OK 6 weeks ago but is not OK now. But before doing anything else you must emsure you are a reaonably recent software and are coorectly tuned as both, or either, may be enough for you to be back to watching TV ok again.
