Can I send my iron in for repair?

Sending your iron for repair is always possible, though expensive. It might be more cost effective to just replace it.

However, if the iron seems intermittent, especially when you move the power cord, it's very likely one or two of the copper braids is broken inside the insulator, precisely at the point where it bends coming in the iron.

I have repaired a few of these irons, and it's a simple repair; the real problem is having the safety torx bit needed to remove the screws holding the heel cover.
After opening the iron, just remove the AC power cord leads, cut out the power cord an inch or so away from the bending point and reconnect the leads.

I took a Rowenta DE871B in to my local appliance repair shop. He said there are no repair parts available and that they are basically a throw away item. It seems a shame since they appear to be well built. All mine needs are few seals to stop it from leaking.
