how can i fix my toyota ks 787 knitting machine?

Set - Knit lever on rear left of machine - won't go any further forward than 1/2 way. As I have no punch cards I thought I could use the press buttons for patterns but they won't budge. Any suggestions. I think it is connected to this lever.

Hi, it's me again.
Do you mean the lever by the punchcard slot? If it is, it might be an idea to take the plastic cover off the back of the machine and have a look inside. It might be dusty or need the old oil/grease cleaning off and replacing. You might be able to see what is preventing the buttons from moving too.

Hi Jacqui,
Thanks for your reply, glad to know things are improving.
You have to push the button down and turn it to make the punchcards go in properly. Brother punchcards work OK in the Toyota machines but you might have to put the main colour in feeder 2 and the contrast in feeder 1. Line 1 on the Brother cards is in the right place; i.e. you feed the card in 7 rows to get the first row of patterning.
There is a service manual advertised on ebay for 12.99 USD, it is on CD. The item number is 220425217913.

Hi Sue, Thank you for answering my query. I have done what you suggest and there is one little screw missing, otherwise the carriage now works beautifully but I think the problem is on the actual bed of the machine, I think they call it the release lever. i have some 24 hole Brother punchcards (if you think they will work) but they only go in 2 clicks then no more. I am trying to find a service manual. Thanks again for your help Sue. Regards Jacqui

Hi Jacqui,
It's a long time since I had a KS787 but I will offer a couple of suggestions.
First take the carriage off the machine and make sure it is thoroughly clean and oiled, then move the levers whilst holding it upside down so you can see what is happening.
Make sure all the buttons are cancelled; I think you do that by pulling them forward but I'm not sure now but your manual will tell you.
For punchcards, you can use any 24 st. card but for fair isle you need to punch out the background, instead of the pattern. Tuck and slip patterns are punched the same as for any other 24 st. machine.
Hope this helps and you get it working,
Regards,

Sue
