monitor screen blurry?

You can buy a video card in about any computer store, some office supply stores and some other places.

The brand of the computer don't affect the price of the card, the same card will work in just about any desktop: PC or Mac, running any OS: Windows, Mac OS, Linux,...
The brand and model of the card do have a huge effect on the price.

Your only consern, is do you have a legacy PCI, an old AGP slot or a current PCIe slot, and obviously, your budget. Those are NOT compatible.

The connection type is indicated on the box of the card. If unsure, ask the saleman.

To know the type of your actual card:
Right-click the desktop and chose Properties.
Parameters tab.
Advanced button.
Card tab.
Read under "Informations about the card"
the first line should have the connector type: PCI, AGP or PCIe.

If you are unsure, bring your actual card to the store and make sure that the connections are identical.

The price DOES varies wildly, it all depend on what use it's destined. It starts around $35 for a basic card and can go well over $500++ for a high end gaming video cars.

You can get a prety good video card in the $50 to $75 price range. It will be good for casual gaming and more than enough for anything else you can throw at it.

I don't know where you live. Take a look at your local publicity, phone directory and do some internet searches to locate some stores in your area.

LCDs normaly don't become blury with age.

It can be some settings, the cable or the video card.

Try your monitor with another computer. If the display is OK, then the monitor is not the cause of the problem. Testing another monitor strongly suggest that the monitor is working properly.

Try the followings:
Turn OFF clear type. Clear type effectively introduce some amount of bluring, and, on some brands and models, it don't play well.

Increase the contrast.

Set the resolution to the native resolution of the monitor, the highest value available.
Lower resolutions require some extra interpolation processing that do cause bluring in both directions.


If it's blury horizontaly but NOT verticaly:
You have a video bandwidth problem. Try changing your refresh rate to a lower value.

Check your video cable, it may be damaged, pinched or crushed. Try with another cable.

If all else fails, your video card may have devloped some problem and will need to be replaced.

CTR monitor? Over 4 or 5 years old?

This is a sign on an aging CTR monitor. Over time, all CTR monitors will show that problem to some extent, and it tends to grow bigger over time.

First thing you can do is to reduce the brightness setting, possibly goint all the way to the minimum. Set the contrast setting to the maximum.

This will aleviate the problem and give you a workable environment.

If the problem keeps geting worst, it's that your monitor is dying. You need to change it.
