Corsa 06 - Stereo blasting out distorted noise!?

My 06 1.0 Corsa has suddenly started to blast out distorted loud music as opposed to being able to control it. You can turn it down with just one small turn of the volume control, however one small turn to turn it up and it jumps to full blast distorted volume, there is now no inbetween volume, just on or off!
