How do I stop the line from feeding? ?

I have an electric weed wacker, bump to feed the line type. The line will not stop feeding which results in a tangle of cord or a bunch of small pieces of plastic in the yard. I have replaces the spool, spring and tension clip, but that has not changed a thing. I still will not stop feeding the cord.
