How can I fix my Dell Latitude D600?

My daughter dropped her laptop and know it won't turn on at all. If I unplug the charger from the wall and the laptop then plug it back into the wall the green light on the charger lights up, but as soon as I plug it back into the laptop the light goes out and nothing works. Any thoughts?

Don't keep pluggin the power supply in until you determine what is causing the short. You will eventually blow the power supply.

Sounds like something is shorting out the power supply when it's connected.
How high was it dropped from, and onto what floor type (EG: carpetted bedroom, or vinyl kitchen, laminate floor, CONCRETE?!)
It isn't looking good so far to be honest with you. These things don't bounce well... ;-(

Well she never dropped the charger - so you can be pretty sure that any alternative charger will behave the same.

But she did drop the laptop so you can be pretty sure that the laptop is quite broken inside - they are not intended to be dropped.

The power light going out on the AC/DC adaptor suggests that the laptop is "eating" all the available DC power.

The choices you have are - self repair - depot or shop repair - new machine. Unless you have a service contract - in which case do not mention the dropping.

you dont say if she had the charger pluged in at the time when she droped it? she could of damaged the jack plug port on the laptop, or broken the power lead inside the cable,on the labtop side of the charger, will it come on on battery power? if so , try a different charger in it if you can get one ,,
