audi A4 (51/ 2000 ) 2ltr petrol, cooling fan?

cooling fan runs as soon as engine is started, consequently heater takes a long time to warm up. have changed sensor on thermostat housing at back (awkward!) but makes no difference,

it may be the wrong sensor/switch. see if there is another one on the radiator!
