Recognition Problem: CDD4851 & I/O Magic IDVDRW4DB?

Bought a HP Pavillion some 3 yrs ago w/ CDD4851 writer and had no problems other than the occassional skipped track on recordings or write failures, but i was ok with. Some 14 months ago, i traded in the main system, but kept things such as CD writer and zip disk, for a system which i made. The system consists of: KT4V MoBo, 512DDR 266RAM, AMD2400+CPU and 64MB "generic" graphics. Had no problems for over a year. Later assembled yet another PersoCom with specs: A7N8X Deluxe MoBo, 1024DDR 400RAM, AMD3200+CPU, and Assylum 5900 Deluxe Graphics w/ 256RAM, which i used also w/ the writer (Both writers) and had no problems for a long period of time. Anywho, the DVD writer i bought some 5 months ago and worked great, as said before, on both PCs. some 40 days before this day, i tried to update XP (piece of s**t, will definately go to linux-based soon, if can get writers to work fine) to SP2 and thats when problems started. drivers went nuts and were not reconized as should (ex: before- "Phillips CD-RW", "I/O Magic 4xDVD-RW (Combe - Doual Format)"... After- "CD-Drive", DVD-Drive", "cdD-Drive"). Either comp will not recognize writers and i see double "CD-Drive" on "My Computer", which i suspect is due to the "combo" drive installed. I rolled back the system to before the updated hoping it would set things as they were before, but no such luck. Tried removing all updates except for bare mins, unplugged from net cuz of virus threat, and still no change. Decided to Re-Install XP and ran system w/ mere OS HDD and either writer, and STILL no change. NEED to know if there is a way to get my writers back, SPECIALLY the I/O Magic since its dual, had i wanted a DVD-ROM i'd have gotten it in the first place at 30USD instead of spending 300USD on a DVD-RW, but preferably both. Help greatly appreciated. Thanx :)

Also, When I look in the "Device Manager", i see the Philips is recognize as "PHILIPS CDD4851 CD-R/RW" and the I/O as "GENERIC 4X DUAL", but means nothing if they wont work properly.
